Total War Warhammer 2

Been sinking more and more time into this. This is an absolute soul crushing game, there is so much you can do that can cause your game to implode. Even on the easier settings something as small as a wrong upgrade/missed upgrade , 1 minor mistake on the field and its lights out for that game and  hours of your life gone and you have to start over.

I'll most likely be dipping into Horizon: Zero Dawn and Crash Team Racing again, although I may have another flip through Playstation Now, which as I don't fancy any online gaming at the moment, is a better use of my pennies that PS+.

I've also been watching some retro game reviews whilst doing some work and I may have a run through Rogue Leader on the Gamecube at some point.

UPDATE: I ended up working at our allotment for three hours, going shopping, doing some cleaning, going to pick up a strimmer and then did a bit of cooking, thus none of this came to pass. Today, I worked from 8am - 12pm and now referencing for my assignment. After going back to actually use aforementioned strimmer, watching the UK Covid-19 updates and a bit more cleaning, that'll be today over.

If I can get up soon enough tomorrow and get my house tidy for my lecture, I'll dig back into them all again.

Currently it's just my normal routine MTG Arena (Ikoria is amazing), Langrisser mobile (Record of Lodoss War crossover going on right now) and Arknights (Tower defense gothca goodness). Maybe I will get around to some Stellaris this weekend and check out the recent updates!

Trying to power through Alien Isolation because of the amazing game world. The hide & seek stuff became brutally repetitive a few hours back and it's hard as fuck even on Normal.

I love everything that's not the alien-related gameplay ironically.

Rebought Diablo 3 on the Switch so that my girlfriend and I could play co-op (don’t have a second PS4 controller). It’s been a lot of fun so far!

Also played a little Jedi Fallen Order earlier, which I continue to get through bit by bit.

Today I played a hodgepodge of Neo Geo CD games. It's quite fun to do from time to time. It makes me want to pick up a few more. I also confirmed that I still suck at Art of Fighting no matter how much I try. :(

Which AoF? AoF2 on regular difficulty is hilariously hard. They all are but AoF2 is just funny.

Yeah it was AoF2 but even the first one I find pretty difficult. :/ on the opposite end of the spectrum I played Ninja Masters as well today and that game is just too easy.

Continued to play Witcher 2 -- and am now probably 2/3 of the way through Chapter 1.

I am really impressed by how good the graphics are, given the timeframe it was released.  However....

The game feels "smaller" than the first game, and the environments feel much more constrained.

The difficulty spikes feel weird.  I recognize that using potions is much more important than the first game. However, fighting small groups of enemies is comically easy, and fighting larger groups feels more like I am "cheesing them" by running away and nibbling down their health.  If I try to "fight" a large group I am quickly overrun.

I've learned to save early, as I've had a couple of crashes to desktop, and a couple of times I got myself caught on geometry.

It looks like the game isn't that long, so I think I will try and beat it before I play Witcher 3.

I've been playing A LOT of Diablo 3 with my girlfriend...Within a week we've completed the main campaign and expansion act, and now we are working through adventure mode on harder difficulties to grind up to 70. She's obsessed with making her character look good (every time we are back in town she goes to transmog and dye her outfit) and she refers to loot as 'treats'.

More a quick summary of the weekend:

I played a bit more Horizon: Zero Dawn, just working my way through the side quests and story as they appear which is nice, though I can already sense that I'll want this game to be over before it is.

ABZU - I appreciate what they were going for, but it just didn't have the impact that Journey had for me (although I only played for about 20 minutes)

I also played some random bits on DS. Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story was fine, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon was also fine and Ace Attorney was also...fine.

I played through Metroid Prime using Dolphin over the past week. Still one of my favorite games and it looks fantastic with upped resolution and so on.

I've owned a copy of Metroid Prime (with a few repurchases) since 2003 and still never completed the game. My current save on the Gamecube places me across a hall from the Freeze Beam and I almost feel guilty for not giving it my attention.

In terms of gaming, I messed around with some PS Now and completed the first stage of Devil May Cry. I think that style of action game just isn't for me, unless it's been made by Platinum. I'm also in the middle of an online lecture at the moment and decided to trying out REmake for the first time in a few years (again on Gamecube). It holds up well, though on my television looks...not great. That said, I've just grabbed the Sword Key (so maybe 10 minutes of actual playing) and saved. It's funny, I don't find games that scary any more (more jumpy and then fun) but I must have some kind of hangover anxiety with this game from playing it when I was 13 and being scared shitless, because I have that vague 'worry' when playing the game.

EDIT: One other thing about REmake, did anyone ever make a mod for the PC version (if the game supports them) that makes the map more in line with modern Resident Evil games - namely it details the items within a room, states which keys open which doors etc). Either way, emotionally preparing myself to test each door until I find one that works.

I bought Far Cry 5 for $5 on the Epic store, and I can't remember ever playing a game that takes itself both so seriously and not at the same time. The physics and gameplay indicate that this is a fun and crazy sandbox shooter. It's full of over the top nonsense all over the place. Drug trips! Aliens! Giant explosions! Every stereotype cranked to 11! Somehow, at the same time it desperately wants you to pay attention to the story, which is very serious. Cutscenes are long and some are unskippable, but most of all so many of the characters will not shut the hell up. They won't let you walk away from them while they're talking or interact with anyone when there's some idiot ramblings over the radio. I also really hate the way they do cutscenes, with your character moving around outside of your control when (very mild spoilers) I've been captured at least three times in the first <10 hours of the game.

The last FPS I played was Black Mesa, and I haven't played a Far Cry game in years, but did everyone just forget all the lessons of Half Life over the last 20 years? I'm sure they feel proud of the fact that if you stop paying attention to someone they put in annoyed voice lines for every character to say "as I was saying ... go kill three magical cows for me," but it's not fun.

I also really dislike that abilities in the game are essentially tied to achievements. I know I'm in the minority in that I've never chased after a achievement, but more than anything it means that there are maybe 50 different things I could do to earn another perk point, which isn't a good way to focus anything. I've mostly just ignored the perks, checking in every once in a while to see how many points I have to spend. Still, my biggest annoyance is that they locked gun slots behind perk unlocks. There aren't even that many types of guns (at least so far), but for a game that should be encouraging me to try new things and play in fun new ways, the limited availability of guns makes the experience feel artificially limited.

I also feel like this is a game made for co-op, but they put the squad stuff in there for all us lonely single players, but it's clunky and annoying. My buddies get a few good shots in or whatever, but once I've been detected my buddies are usually dead in a short amount of time, so I just forget about them.

It's not a bad game, I'm enjoying it well enough, but it feels like a game built by a bunch of separate teams that didn't really talk to each other, and the result is a functional, but disjointed whole.

After 13 hours I finished Far Cry 5, and my impressions didn't change. It's fun, but it really never fixes the issues with its structure or its tone. The anything goes gameplay bucks against both. Tonally having characters go on at length about the horrors they've endured while I'm rocking a bright pink helicopter is off. Structurally, I can't think of any worse idea than having an open world game where you're periodically ripped out of that open world, regardless of what you're doing. Twice I was in a helicopter, blew up the right thing to put me past a break point, and then I was teleported back to a drug trip story segment. I got so tired of all the talking I played a good deal of this game without my headphones on. Easily worth the $6 on sale now, but I'm glad I didn't pay full price. Now I'll see if New Dawn is any better.

Metroid Prime is still one of my favorite games of all time. It looks beautiful to this day when run via Dolphin emulation and everything in terms of gameplay is just super tight and fun. It's amazing to me that they nailed it so hard on their first attempt somehow. The level design, pacing, various gameplay systems, absolutely fantastic soundtrack, aesthetics, everything is spot on and it holds up beautifully.

I've been playing Streets Of Rage 4 a lot. It's really fun and a great game but they really need to tone down some of that over-reliance on hyper-armour moves in a patch, it's a bit out of control.

If you're into beat 'em ups, it's a must-play I think.

Yeah the kidnappings were annoying. I mean the first was like ok fine whatever, fairly standard to have your character kidnapped by the villain for a "No Mr. Bond I expect you to die" moment while the main villain goes and gets lunch and leaves you to escape the clutches of his braindead minions segment in a game at this point. But 3 times is too fucking much.

Speaking of Far Cry, went back and played some Far Cry 3 classic because if nothing else, the basic game play loop of Far Cry games is entertaining enough.

I've been playing a lot of Dead Cells lately. I had taken a break at some point while playing with 2 boss cells, but since I started back I reached and have been playing with 4 boss cells active. Malaise is handing my ass to me, as is the Giant and the HotK. :/ I might take another break until update 19, as the changes sound good and I'm starting to get burnt out again.

I also fired up MGS 5 Ground Zeroes recently, and  I feel completely lost as to what's going on story-wise. I feel like I was just thrown into this scenario where I should know more about the story. Aside from that, I'm not too sure how I feel about Stealth games in large open environments. I'm the kinda player who needs every enemy to be unconscious/dead lest some dude catches me off guard. :p Also, aiming with a mouse while zoomed in is absolutely fucked. How does Phantom Pain compare overall?

After the rough beginning of Nier Automata, I am starting to enjoy it more, but I don’t see myself playing through this multiple times. The combat is what you expect from a Platinum game. It’s fast and fluid but lacks weight. It’s also really busy on screen where it is hard to see exactly what is going on and devolves to button mashing. The camera doesn’t help either. FF7 Remake should arrive soon and I’ll probably drop this and never come back.
