Cool if you're ready to check it out I'd suggest doing all the Training missions first and then doing some Trials. Shooting is VERY different in this game. It's like what Dark Souls combat is to regular action games sort of. Very deliberate and animation heavy.

Warno came out yesterday and it's a bit hard to play in that it seems ot be more popular in the EU then the US so I generally play in the morning. I came to this thread to report that I won my 2nd game. I need to get better lost alot of units needlessly. If you like Wargame or Steel Division you should buy it. Though not now it's in early access and only skirmish and mp is available. It only has 2 divisions so far. The US 3rd Armored Division (kinda cool because it's in SD1 and 2) and the 79th Guards Tank Division.  

 

One of my spetznatz GRU deserves Hero of the Soviet Union. Aside from spotting enemies for arty and air strikes it single handily took down 3 M1A1s. 2 of them in one fight.

 

I plan to keep playing and when I take a break I will start working again on my T-80U model kit.

I’ve played a couple hours. Just got to the point where you can start mixing up your abilities. It’s a really well made game that’s just satisfying to play. Highly recommend, especially if you’re on Game Pass.

It’s impressive how there is always something to do. It helps keep the progression moving forward.
 

My main complaint is the game does not pause or slow down when you try to change classes during combat. I have defaulted to pausing the game in hectic fights to avoid taking damage. It also doesn’t help that you can customize which characters show up in the quick change.

I kinda slept on it, then I started seeing it pop up on top 10 after top 10 list, and started checking it out. Wow, im just really, really impressed. Frankly, it's mechanically better than 2d zelda, and if they make a second larger game (apparently the story is about 10 hours, with about the same in extras), I could really see it ending up a goty contender.

I’m playing Dread at night to finish off before Legends gets here and while I quite like it, I do not like some of the button mapping, something bothering me more lately. They need to either allow more options or get better at it. I don’t see why I can’t do a toggle for the grappling hook, holding down all these buttons to aim with it never feels good. In general I feel like I have to hold too many buttons during boss fights, it makes it feel like nothing is precise as I want it to be.

 

I guess my answer here is more toggle options but some games have a different issue of hiding too many commands under buttons. We really should have had at least two more buttons rather than needing to do all these button combos now. Some games of course just map better like Jedi, that game everything feels mapped right.

I don't know how this'll be received among Final Fantasy fans, but after finishing FFX HD this past weekend, I doubt I'll play it again. 

 

I thoroughly enjoyed this back in the day on PS2, but nowadays, some of its mechanics have aged quite a bit, chief among which is the lack of a New Game + mode, which would've been hugely beneficial for completionists. Not to mention the fact you cannot skip cut-scenes are a massive drawback in this game (something I hadn't considered back then). There were several times where you save your game, walk several steps or more, reach a cut-scene that could last several minutes, fight a boss that kills you, and now you must restart the game from where you last saved, and go through the cut-scenes all over again. Lady Yunalesca was a bitch because of this. 

 

I think the battle system is good (I tend to prefer turn-based systems, though Xenoblade's I am a huge fan of), love the locales, and the music. The storyline is decent enough, but voice acting is typical 2000s acting in video games. 

 

Part of my issue is the lack of incentives. I wanted to get the Celestial weapons, but I apparently ended up far enough into the story when I got to the Airship, that it practically renders that almost impossible, or incredibly difficult because you'll then have to fight some Dark Aeons to even get some of the items. I was disappointed that if I got some of those items earlier, I would bypass those Dark Aeons. 

 

I even skipped the Omega Ruins compared to my PS2 playthrough because fuck that trying to beat the Omega Weapon with a shit ton more HP compared to OG NA release. There's also the Monster Arena, which just sounds like a huge undertaking without much benefit. The Celestial Weapons would be my only real thing that I would like to get (mostly for breaking the damage limit), but it just appears if you don't do certain things on time, you'll miss out on other opportunities, and the game becomes much harder to grind. 

 

I don't know. Am I completely out of line, or do some of you share a similar feeling? 

 

I just started playing FFX-2, another game I enjoyed back then, so we'll see if this is better received. At least level progression is more traditional compared to the Sphere Grid, which I am also not a huge fan of.

I mean, im not sure what your complaint is beyond it not aging well? The combat, and that you didn't do some stuff? Im not sure what your problem with the combat is, but I also hate turn based combat and think the vast majority of newer games that use it should be fired into the sun. I like it in games I have nostalgia for, like FFIV and FFVI, and even the PSX FF games, but I also absolutely hate the way it slows the game down. But really, FFX is just another modified turn based system. 

 

These games never reaally had incentives beyond "more power" when it comes to side content.

 

I like X. I don't love it, but I love the sphere grid. I think it's one of the best progression systems they've done. But why would you be out of line for feeling however you feel about it?

 

The only games in the series I can't stand are XIII and XV. IV and VI are some of my all time favorites. VII and IX are also up there. The rest are just ok. Although I definitely need to reevaluate XII. Its been so long I barely remember it.

Yeah, I usually don't mess with the DLC or minor spinoffs for these games.

Do you have Yojimbo? If the version you're playing has the same boosters as the PC version you can turn on Max Gil and then pay Yojimbo a ridiculous amount of money to eliminate anything that is too annoying to fight (use Max Gil again to max it back up for the next annoying super boss). Assuming you did things right with Wantz to get his end game shop with 4 empty slot equipment, you can make your own ultimate equipment using Max Gil and Max Items to get the materials without having to farm for hours. Even without 4 slot equipment you can still make your break damage limit gear with 3 slots.

 

I played the game normally until the end and then started using boosters to avoid wasting too much time with Omega Ruins, Monster Arena, and Dark Aeons. It was much more enjoyable than spending hours in the Omega Ruins and eventually giving up on the rest of the Celestial Weapons and other optional stuff and just finishing the game like I did on the PS2 version. If I were to play it again I might just start with the boosters right away making it similar to a New Game +, so that I can breeze through the game.

As my previous post mentioned, I didn't really have issues with the combat system. I felt it was pretty streamlined, and since it was turn-based, but with the added benefit of being able to determine which character/monster attacks next is nice. Not to mention swapping out characters at will is nice, though In almost every single encounter, I would swap out characters in order to help them level up. That part got old after awhile. And the reason why I didn't care for the Sphere Grid is it just felt like it added a solution to a problem that didn't exist. I get that it allows a more dynamic approach to leveling up, so I'll give it that. You can sort of pick and choose how you want to progress. I guess for me, it would've been cooler if each character had their own bespoke sphere grids, but that would've also changed some of the fundamentals. The ability of having every character having the same abilities kind of breaks some of the strategies over time, but that's just me. 

 

I should've mentioned this earlier, so apologies, but I originally started this playthrough of FFX HD back in 2015 (not a typo), and only late last year I got back into it. I left off at the Calm Lands, which over time I felt I wasn't as far as I really was. So I was already 2/3rds to 3/4ths done with the game. Perhaps if I had restarted the game from the beginning, then it might've turned out differently? 

 

I still maintain that for an HD remaster, a New Game Plus mode should've been added (FFX-2 has it, so why not X?), plus the ability to skip-cut-scenes. I'm also kind of spoiled because of Xenoblade because in that I can save practically whenever, and wherever. It makes a more compelling case for pick-up and play, and since my ability to play games for extended periods isn't really a thing nowadays. That's where the bulk of my complaints come from concerning the "feeling dated" aspect. In that regard, it still feels old-school, and it's in line with other FF titles. 

 

Like I said, I love the music, I actually like the story (I'm getting Dan Simmons' Hyperion vibes actually now that I'm reading through those books), and the locations are cool. And thinking about it, from a traversing perspective, having the Airship late in the game to allow you to go to any previous area is a nice touch, and gives an overall nice sense of openworld-esque progression.

 

I think I may want to sell my PS3 copy, and get it for PC, so if I want to go back to it, I can do on my future Steam Deck. I realize with my Switch, playing JRPGs in handheld, and/or laying on the couch is very relaxing. Maybe something I'll continue with other titles? Booting up my PS3 to play these for some reason just feel like a chore for some odd reason. 

 

I don't know. That's enough reflecting, and ranting for this thread. 

 

 

I'll continue progressing in FFX-2 for now. :cool:

I like the progression overall. You do always have multiple objectives- right now I have so many that I’m not even looking at them or tracking anything on the map. Everywhere I go and seemingly everything I do is attributing to some score or another.

I did get Yojimbo, but none of the other bonus Aeons. I missed Anima because I was missing some items that I could only get upon beating a Dark Aeon (I think Dark Valefor?)

 

And yeah, getting the PC version, and using mods would be great for that sort of thing.
