What are you playing today?

Recommended Posts

Finally started Halo Infinite… made it past the Tower section… the grappling mechanic is addictive… though I definitely miss some of the mobility options from Halo 5..

Figured I’d start this after GR: Breakpoint just failed its last chance..  I have the new Tombraider games waiting in the wings

The 16-bit style sequel Alwa's Legacy is even better.

Yeah, I watched a gameplay trailer for it and it looks like they addressed some of the things that people didn’t particularly like about the first game such as the basic combat, slow movement and floaty jumping. These are things that I’ve been finding somewhat troublesome with the game as well since the design of it often requires quick and precise movement and jumping which isn’t possible with the somewhat sluggish controls which unfortunately lead to a lot of underserved deaths as a result. The gameplay in the sequel looks a lot faster, snappier and fun. I’m definitely going to buy it when it goes on sale at the PS Store.

Finished Lost Judgment and started up RDR 2 for the second time. I didn’t get before I quit so I decided to restart and give it another chance.

RD2 is so beautiful. The story, characters, ai, and gaming world is off the charts. Once you adjust to the controls and combat it's in my opinion a masterpiece.

i saw this and switched to ray tracing.

this game is really beautiful and just plain fun.  Im on chapter 7 now and Im smiling the entire time im playing. Ive never card so much about characters before. The banter really brings them to life and i think really makes this game stand apart from other action games. The combat is growing on me more but I still dont find it amazing.

Back to Perfect Dark, second to last mission. I wandered around for ages trying to see what to do. Turns out, I needed to blow up three relatively unassuming terminals to lower some shields, then the alien was one hit killed and I failed the mission. Classic gaming at its best.

I also had a little temptation of buying a new Xbox 360 controller to buy and play the Gears games and Halo 3. Then I remembered I have no time for playing new games much less replaying games I owned when I was 17 so had a word with myself and now I won’t be doing that.

Played 3 more hours of Valhalla. It's really polished now and it looks and runs amazingly well on the xsx. It's a damn good game I don't care what anyone thinks.

Im almost done with GOTG (on chapter 13) and I was thinking of going back to Valhalla  after Im done. My only concern is I dont want to get open-world burnout right before Forbidden West drops. As for Valhalla, I have 34hrs clocked in already

Spoiler

Im just after that first Midgard section that really felt like a slog running around collecting all those things (forget what they were) for 3 skills points. lol

but in typical AssCreed fashion, I get to a point where i feel like: ok, this basically what this game has to offer, nothing is going to be a significant change for the next 20-30hrs. I then just stop playing and never go back. Have done that with every single one except AssCreed II which I finished and actually 100%. I have no idea why THAT one did it for me..but I absolutely loved it.

I'm waaaaay out of the loop on this game apparently.

You and me both apparently

Regarding playing, still the same shit for me. Been spending about 30 minutes in Hunt: Showdown's training mode every night just practicing my aim, trying to learn how to flick shoot, learning different guns. Never been so dedicated to learning a videogame lol

I started playing Light Fairytale Episode 1. It’s a retro style turn-based JRPG with 3D graphics, fixed camera angles and cute chibi characters. It’s influenced by the original Final Fantasy VII with a similar look and feel to it. It’s a little light on combat as a big part of the game is walking around different areas of the underground city, and interacting with NPCs to progress the story. I have Episode 2 as well, and I’ll play it next after I finish this one.

Dude... it's been a fucking CHORE playing this game. I'm still scratching my head. Everything just feels so sluggish and non responsive... I even went in and tweaked the setiings a bit and the aim speed feels a little better but the overall movement of the character just feels like shit. You know what it feels like? It feels like a First person shooter from the early 2000's. That's what it feels like. Like they tried to marry RE4 with RE7 and didn't really understand how to do so without making a subpar action game. It's crazy to me. If I would have spent full price on this I would have REALLY been pissed. As it is, the 19.99 I did spend on it felt like too much :p

Ok rant over. Once I beat this boss, If I ever do, I'll delete the game from my harddrive and never look back. The sad thing is because everyone fawned over this game so much, it ain't gonna get better in the future so we're pretty much stuck with this out side of the remakes and remasters. I'm just waiting for a Code Veronica remake and I'll probably be done with this series to be honest.

I've already bashed it enough on here but I simply think the whole game feels awkward and lacking at a core level. It's like a gimped RE4 with a more limited moveset shoved into an outdated FPS template or something, pretty much just like you said. The opening segment is a prime example of how hard they were leaning into the RE4 nostalgia without seemingly understanding even a quarter of the stuff that made that game's village opening so fucking good. That marriage thing you said is the exact problem I have with it. It's the weaker aspects of both worlds combined in some weird hodgepodge that just doesn't work for me.

The review scores and reception is baffling to me, really. I actually liked, what I played of it at least, RE6 more than this, at least the gameplay was legit.

6 was the one with Chris punching the bolder? Yeah I enjoyed that one too... 5 was the co-op one right? I know I played and beat both on Gamefly rentals and I didn't hate either as much as this one :p At least those games knew what they were. I didn't play this game at launch and didn't pay much attention to it because I KNEW I wasn't gonna get it until a price drop but I heard such good things about it that I figured it was an improvement on RE7. NOPE. It was a big step backwards in my opinion.

Resident Evil 5 is the co-op one with Sheva, and the one with Chris punching the bolder at the end. Resident Evil 6 is the more cinematic straight forward action one where you play as different characters throughout the campaign.

Finished GOTG last night. My feelings about the game that I stated in previous posts havent changed. Its just an absolutely fun romp the entire time. The banter is just incredible and brings the characters to life and really set this game as something truly unique. I hope we see this in other games as well. The gameplay definitely got better, but still not amazing. the huddle mechanic was cool, but i never quite got the hang of it and i think i would fuck it up more often then get it correct. I really love how the earlier choices I made came back in the end and actually had an impact. I dont think it changed the overall outcome, but it was cool to see how it unfolded. Very Mass Effectish (perhaps even more impactful than 3!).

I realized I just played 3 outstanding sci-fi games back-to-back. Rift Apart, Andromeda and GOTG. Each unique in their own way and all were excellent.

Now the question is what to play next. Im probably 30% of the way in on Valhalla and Id like to finish it. Or do I restart Ghost of Tushima on PS5 (only got about 2hrs in on PS4). I dont really want to be playing anything when Forbidden West drops, bc I am definitely jumping right in to that.

I'd say play Ghost which will end roughly when Forbidden West comes out. That's if you play about 2-3 hours a day like I do.
