I think these games have greatly benefited from having a character rather than a caricature. 

 

Thankfully, the Tomb Raider games have grown up with the times, and a lot of the platforming that was so core in the old titles just doesn't work as well anymore. At least I can't think of any good recent examples.

i.e. why climb up on top of a ledge when you can do a handstand and then cartwheel onto it? Why do a backflip off a truck, shoot the driver through the windshield, and then land on a jeep, when she could just shoot him through the window? Because she's Lara Croft, that's why.

I know, I don't disagree. My point by saying 'model' specifically was simply that they can axe the monster polygon chest and so forth without sacrificing on the original tone in my opinion. There are ways to successfully update that without having it devolve into ultra grim constantly-hold-my-own-shoulders-and-shiver-because-shit-is-so-hardcore nor look-at-my-huge-tits territory.

Mr. Skillz, could you be so kind and specifically post some impressions of the platforming/traversal here whenever you get a feel of it?

 

I've read conflicting statements in reviews in regards to this. It seems everyone mostly agrees that there's a bigger focus on that aspect of TR yet some specifically also pointed out that it doesn't feel too hot. I don't know what to make of that and would be curious to read some actual poster impressions on here.

Gameplay- I havent been real impressed with previous entries and this one is no different.It plays pretty much the same.Gather resources,make ammo,kill bad guys is the basic loop. The actual traversal is slightly worse feeling.Crofts model feels very stiff when jumping more so then before its always felt like the engine wasnt build for jumping around,its clunky.

 

Story-From what I ve played ,dont expect a miracle,its serviceable.

Maxed out on the PC this is easily one of the best looking games I've ever played!  Its absolutely more of the same, and for me that's a good thing! This is one of about a dozen titles that I just count on to move the state of the art visuals and world building  (not story telling per say, but rather the viability of the world itself)  forward while maintaining the same basic mechanics of gather--> build->fight-> advance->walking/talking loop.

 

That said, The obvious love & care put into creating the environments is so high that I felt a pang of guilt not spending more time than I did, and trust me I spent time,  just soaking in the first hour's locations! So much effort was extended to bringing these areas to life! Whoever you people are, thank you/sorry I had to run by your hard work; was killing shit! :sun:

Oh boy. Granted I'm not really invested in this game much so whatever in the end, but based on some reviews I was hoping they'd finally nail traversal and platforming with this one a bit. Pass for me since I've ready quite a few folks say this by now. Maybe when it hits like $7.99 at GameStop.
