TwinIon Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 Disney is going to release Hamilton as a feature film on October 15, 2021. The film is being described as a “leap forward in the art of ‘live capture.'” It explains the live capture method as “combining the best elements of live theater and film,” resulting in “a cinematic stage performance that is a wholly new way to experience Hamilton.” The original Broadway cast filmed the production in 2016. As someone that really enjoys musical theater but hasn't been able to see the show, I'm happy to finally get a chance that doesn't require hundreds of dollars per seat. Quote
Emblazon Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I’ve seen it twice. And I’ll be seeing it when it comes to movie theaters, too! @Anzo Quote
Anzo Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 2021 mind you. Also seen it twice and can’t wait! 1 Quote
Emblazon Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 Dammit. Release date isn’t until October 15th, 2021. Quote
TheLeon Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 At least it'll come out eventually. I was totally consumed by the album for a solid 18+ months, but was never able to afford my way to the theater. Quote
johnny Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 im kind of worried that that hamilton stans will sing during the movie. not that im against it totally, but my first time watching i'd rather just listen to the actors singing lol Quote
Guest Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 White people kinda ruined Hamilton for me. But this is interesting. Quote

Greatoneshere Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 Hopefully Hollywood doesn't do to Hamilton what it did to The Lion King and Cats . . . Quote

I'm sure that's the case, but I'm sure some Hollywood exec thought that the idea behind Cats was "immersive capture" too. Quote

I'm guessing they're not going to do a whole lot to it other than some camera movements. Quote

CastlevaniaNut18 Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I really want to see the play while in NYC this summer, but ugh at $400 minimum for us both to go. Quote
Spawn_of_Apathy Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Is it going to have nightmare inducing cgi bodies, like cats? Quote

While I would agree that is probably correct, the press release is incredibly light on details so who knows exactly what the end product will be like? Quote

They are going to make the songs rock. It's going to star Ryan Gosling (because everyone loves him) and they are gonna have to add some Asian characters so it will get some run in China. Otherwise they aren't changing a thing. Quote
TheLeon Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I hope it’s the triumphant return of Smell-O-Vision. Quote
SuperSpreader Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Pass. I saw it with the original cast. Quote

Puerto Ricans, like Cubans and Brazilians have a large percentage of Native, Black (Slavery), and Spanish (Jew, Moor, and from the Kingdom). They aren't the same culturally as African Americans. AOC is also the same background. Quote
Iculus Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I hope it's the original soundtrack over schoolhouse rock style animation. That would be neat. Quote
