Re: In N Out.

Fries are terrible. Just terrible. Burgers are meh. But my main gripe with In N Out is that I've never been to one where I was--ahem--in and out in a reasonable time. But my wife's family has wanted to go there after family get togethers in the past. It's always so crowded. I don't understand the long lines both to order and to actually find a table for the definition of mediocre fast food.

the lines are ridiculous

i used to get 2 double doubles protein style. Skip the fries.

I don’t believe this is a real thing that needed to be addressed, but good exposure for the Asthma group and clicks for WaPo :p

It totally sounds like a real thing, though. H2O2 can help clean a wound, so why not toss some in your nebulizer to clean your chest of COVID. God, that sounds awful, but I bet there's a study from like Israel with doctors experimenting with it.

It’s not just anti-vaxxers. The themes of resisting power and regaining control of our lives have been cynically repurposed, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Quote

I believe this synthesis of left-alternative and rightwing cultures has been accelerated by despondency, confusion and betrayal. After left-ish political parties fell into line with corporate power, the right seized the language they had abandoned. Steve Bannon and Dominic Cummings brilliantly repurposed the leftwing themes of resisting elite power and regaining control of our lives. Now there has been an almost perfect language swap. Parties that once belonged on the left talk about security and stability while those on the right talk of liberation and revolt.

But I suspect it also has something to do with the issues we now face. A justified suspicion about the self-interest of big pharma clashes with the need for mass vaccination. The lockdowns and other measures required to prevent Covid-19 spreading are policies which, in other circumstances, would rightly be seen as coercive political control. Curtailing the pandemic, climate breakdown and the collapse of biodiversity means powerful agreements struck between governments – which can be hard to swallow for movements that have long fought multilateral power while emphasising the local and the homespun.

An immune therapy derived from llama blood shows "exciting potential" in early coronavirus trials.

Quote

A Covid therapy derived from a llama named Fifi has shown "significant potential" in early trials.

It is a treatment made of "nanobodies", small, simpler versions of antibodies, which llamas and camels produce naturally in response to infection.

Once the therapy has been tested in humans, scientists say, it could be given as a simple nasal spray - to treat and even prevent early infection.

Prof James Naismith described nanobodies as "fantastically exciting".

I'm beyond frustrated that none of the architects of covid deaths will face any punishment or repercussions. There is blood on the hands of Trump, Abbott, DeSantis, Fucker Carlson, and so many other Republicans. They lie to the gullible, or restrict their citizens from the commonsense methods that we know, we fucking know, work. Yet, nothing will happen to them. They won't be punished, they won't go to jail, they won't lose an election, they won't even get seriously fucking sick (because they are all vaccinated and have top of the line healthcare that their supporters don't have [seriously, almost every single one of those HCA posts say they lack insurance, what a fucked up country]). I don't want regular people to die. No matter how racist, stupid, or gullible they are, they don't deserve death. Even though their actions can hurt the rest of us, they don't deserve to die. Their children don't deserve to grow up without a parent. And yet, the architects of death all deserve to choke on their own blood. I don't believe in an afterlife, nor do I believe that any reckoning is coming in this life, but if there is any justice in this world the Trump/Abbott/DeSantis/Carlson axis of evil bunch will die alone with no one to mourn them.

Yeaaah, freedom of speech with an uneducated public might have been a mistake. :p

Ugh, our niece's parents are now texting her telling her my wife is a "stupid little bitch" and that we're trying to brainwash her and keep her away from her family. :|

We said she could give her brother a ride provided they both wear masks (and keep windows down), but this has turned into them saying we want a segregated society, etc. Total talking points of the anti-vaxxer. Her step dad just texted "have a nice life" to her.

Fuck these kinds of people. Sorry you're dealing with this kind of nonsense so close to you personally.

I do want a segregated life from them though.

It sucks. My wife and I can understand, but it's tough to thread the needle with our niece, explain to her that her parents still love her, but they are caught in a loop of misinformation and shouldn't be taking it out on her.

In this scenario is "can I speak to your manager," "can I speak to your grandmother"?

My wife has stopped responding to her sister, but my niece is still getting texts. Hopefully they just peter out.

I find answering rage messages with "Ok" or "I'm not interested in arguing with you" to be more effective than straight ignoring.

"I appreciate your feedback."

I once received a loooooong Facebook message from a customer. 1500 word essay about the bad time they had, but I had already heard the real story from a staff member.

So I said

Based on what you've said, you've done everything right.

You've done a tremendous thing on bringing your niece into your home.

It's going to be hard, because this pandemic has created tremendous rifts, that feel very large now, but may seem less important as the years go on.

Your wife's, and your niece's, relationships with their wife/sister are probably the most important thing in the long run.  And that must be terribly tough to deal with right now.

You're doing the right thing.

Coronavirus protection offered by Moderna’s mRNA vaccine held strong and did not wane for more than five months after the second shot, a new study out of Brigham and Women’s Hospital shows.

In a study of more than 30,000 participants, the vaccine remained safe and effective for an average of 5.3 months after their second shot. Even after the time had passed, the shot was 93.2% effective in preventing illness from COVID-19, and 98.2% effective in preventing severe disease.

Strong protection remained in all subgroups including elderly participants and those with comorbidities. Researchers also found there was protection against asymptomatic coronavirus.

So since I also got Pfizer and then Moderna, I can get a third shot too? Seeing as some countries won't recognize mixed dosages as being fully vaccinated, and even the CDC advises against it, even though Canada has said it's fine, I'm more than willing to go get a third shot if I have to, especially if I decide to travel.

Man...hundreds of thousands of people in Canada waited for new Pfizer shipments, refusing Moderna. The fools! My wife got one shot of Pfizer, one of Moderna (which means she can receive a third of Moderna whenever she wants). Lucky!

Since I was technically jumping the gun on my third shot I just went with doing what they were doing in Israel, which was a third Pfizer, but in hindsight I kind of wish I'd gotten a Moderna for my third shot instead.

Depends on the province. In SK they let you get a third dose that matches your second (if you have two different brands).
