Yeah it's disgusting. I went to a barber and he did wear a mask but turns out he was vax hesitant. I was like 😐😐😐 since I realized this halfway through the haircut and he had knifes to my head.

Later we were talking about meat and I mentioned I love medium rare, he only likes well done but "as long as I don't make him sick" he would try medium rare. I was like, the fucking fool can't see the irony. He was overweight and definitely in a high risk category. Just an average dude who likes football and beer, nothing malicious, still a fool. (Great barber tho!)

Like, I get that there's misinformation out there, but.. are you going to do this, your whole life? My sister isn't vaxxed, so she's out until she is. No heart to humor these people. If my approach "makes them feel bad" then so be it. Get the fucking shot.

This story is a lie unless the conversation was about you pimping a hot chicken sandwich to him.

Must have made a lot of money selling all that citiva you were growing there, you think you'll be able to rake in as much in Texas?

I made a good chunk, TX and AZ are the hottest markets right now, we're 100% renovating the house (it's a 1920s Craftsman) and we'll see what the market says in a few years. It's ~5 minutes from downtown and in a neighborhood with a bunch of restaurants and bars. 🤞🤞🤞

I want to retire early and stop giving af. (Yes, I consider this me giving af and it's too much for me.)

I don't know what sativa is, I thought you didn't know how to spell. 😂

Yesterday I was denied entry to a bar because I had a metal shirt and jeans on, I just said whatever I'm rich enjoy your empty bar. (jk) I just told them good luck and went to a wine bar. I'll let my dogs pee on their door next time I'm out.

Mexicans are like that too. It's from growing up poor with meat that's more likely to be/go bad.

Or....  Mostly having access to cheaper cuts of beef, that typically benefit for being cooked longer at lower temperatures.

Both of these make sense... I didn't discover real prime cuts of steak until I was an adult.

This will be my last comment on food in this thread.

Covid hospitalization and death is not a white problem.

Opioid crisis isn't either, or at the very least black people OD'ing on synthetic opioid based drugs are catching up fast. I check the statistics here and there because I have a bit of a personal investment in the situation and just between 2015 and 2017, in metro areas the number of black ODs tripled, with hispanic being something like a 50% increase and white around 25%.

I just assumed it was my Dad who had terrible taste in steak temps, but maybe this is a part of older Black culture? Now that I think about it, Granny is the same way…

Yeah, I think it's a poor thing in general. My family had real shit food where I grew up and the war generation basically turned any meat into leather and all gristle and fat had to be eaten as well and I'm not exaggerating. I actually can't eat plain slabs of meat on a plate to this day because of that association, it was fucking disgusting.

I remember having a conversation with a co-worker who was a conservative Christian and when I asked him why he was opposed to Obamacare at the time or Government funded healthcare in general he told me that it's not the Government's role to take care of people or something to that effect. He literally said that it was up to the "community" and charities to take care of the sick and needy :|

I think he's talking about the different responses... when The drug crisis was percieved as being mostly a black and brown thing, The country responded with "The War on Drugs" and a tough on crime aproach, completely eschewing treating it as a health crisis. When the problem moved to rural and suburban America, it became a "Crisis". The difference? The complexion of the victims.

Absolutely and I think I probably read the post wrong and/or jumped to conclusions because of personal experiences. I read it as "opioid crisis = white problem and fuck the victims", which is why I posted what I did.

I've actually been waiting for the War On Drugs to become a topic of wider discussion considering what an utter debacle that was and remains.

I'd like to point out that I in no way, shape, or form grew up "poor" and I only consumed well-done meat prior to my recent transition to "soft" vegetarianism.

I’m sure even rich people in T&T burn the shit out of their meat.

One of the most baffling things about my short stint in Cali was actually how much people there love In N Out. The fries are terrible and the burgers are okay at best.

I don't get it either... there are far better burgers here in Cali than In and Out. Smashburger is better than In and Out off the top of my head if we're talking about chain restaurants.

I don’t see / hear this said as much anymore, but this argument used to get a lot of traction from people advocating lower taxes… if only individuals had more money, they would create and support private social safety nets that would replace the ineffective and inefficient government ones. It’s a bad take.

Re: In N Out.

Fries are terrible. Just terrible. Burgers are meh. But my main gripe with In N Out is that I've never been to one where I was--ahem--in and out in a reasonable time. But my wife's family has wanted to go there after family get togethers in the past. It's always so crowded. I don't understand the long lines both to order and to actually find a table for the definition of mediocre fast food.
