Second dose of Pfizer leveled me for a good three days. First day after was full on fever, chills, sweats, shivering and so on, the next two days I just felt really drained and couldn't stop sleeping. Ended up calling in sick but gladly NYS let's you fill out a form where your employer can't dock you for vaccine-related time off.

Biden is proposing this go nationwide right?

I’ve been going for walks lately sans mask. I practically feel like a nudist!

Yeah I don't wear a mask if I'm just walking in the neighbourhood (though I keep one in my pocket, just in case!). But if I were theoretically going to be in a very busy pedestrian area (close to hundreds of people, shoulder to shoulder) I suppose I would.

I think masks in many parts of the US vs Canada (at least from my experience in Toronto) are very different.  It’s more polarized in the US so it seems youre extreme on both sides.  As a mask wearer I get it. If I was surrounded by idiots that don’t follow any of the rules I’d be more nervous and rightfully so. Who knows if that maskless moron just came from a wedding.  However, I haven’t seen anyone here ever fight store managers   About policies and what not. We simply wear are mask indoors. But outdoors is different. Many, myself included don’t wear it.  In my neighborhood walking my dog I’ve not once put on a mask. However, on the rare occasion, if I go into my empty downtown office I’ll wear my mask outside getting there. I’ve never thought joggers and cyclists need to wear a mask because they are outside and can easily social distance.:peace:

It’s not really polarized where I live either. Everyone wears it inside and like half the people wear it outside.

Despite the removal of the mask mandate, it’s still odd to see people not wear masks indoors even in places that don’t require them. High 90%.

But it’s always been rare here to see people wearing masks outdoors when away from others. Pretty much only ever see people wearing masks outside if they are interacting with people outside of their immediate circle. Even then more likely to just see people stand far apart.

Holy fuck it's even worse, the Streetsblog article he links to says they were explicitly telling people to take transit to the Coliseum.

Quote

Daniel Filipkowski of San Francisco finally managed to get an appointment for his vaccine at the Oakland Coliseum. He got his confirmation email Sunday with all his details. He headed down via BART on Monday. But when he got there, he and others who walked across the pedestrian bridge from the BART station were in for a shock–despite all the public announcements encouraging people to take transit to the Coliseum, he was turned away.

I came across this ridiculous Tweet. I don't understand German, and there are no subtitles, but if what this quack is saying is actually what the video is about, I don't believe it for one second.

Hit up @Nokra for the truth.

I see this was cleared up already, and my German has gotten a bit rusty in the year I've been back, but I think he's saying:

When I went to the grocery store a couple weeks ago right before I went inside I saw a lady walk into the store without a mask. I didn't say anything but she looked like she knew what she was getting into.

How was the first dose. Getting my moderna in a few hours

First was a sore arm, and I woke up with chills in the middle of the second night. That was really brief, though.

I’m just thrilled I haven’t gotten the raging headache everyone talks about.

It looks like Canada will get more people vaccinated than the US (in terms of at least one shot given) in the next 20-30 days. This is due to skipping second shots for now in an effort to create herd immunity with one shot. However, Canada will also surpass the US in second shots given in the late summer, based on trends. I think it's due to lower vaccine hesitancy. US seems likely to level off between 60 and 70% total vaccination, with Canada between 70 and 80%. How much of a difference this will make, I don't know

There is hesitancy for the astra Zeneca that’s for sure.  I went to a pop up yesterday that opened to anyone age 40+ because no one showed up. I was the last guy and they ran out so let me come to a moderna now. I’m here right now!  This was only open to certain postal codes and the line was over a km

That's much faster than I've seen projected.

My second dose is scheduled for August 18th -- and given that we are just slightly north of 27% with one dose, that should put us at around 27% fully vaccinated by mid-August.  Which is exactly where the US is today.  We might catch up with them in September/October -- but November isn't too much of a stretch either.

Our strategy is to minimize deaths/serious illness because even one dose dramatically reduces the likelihood of serious illness.  I haven't seen a virologist suggest our strategy will expedite herd immunity -- quite the contrary -- I've seen them suggest that we need to get 80-95% of full vaccination to get there.  And since we are not vaccinating children -- and certainly not before the fall/winter -- herd immunity is impossible before then.  That is, if  herd immunity is even possible with a Coronavirus -- and it may not be.
