Isn’t efficacy based on aggregate impact as opposed to likelihood? In other words, 95% effective doesn’t mean ‘you will have a 5% chance to still catch the virus’, it means ‘we saw 95% fewer cases in the population that took it’. That being the case, I don’t think you can say with any certainty that one will provide more personal protection over another.

Yeah, I looked up the actual numbers. The tangible number for the Pfizer vaccine is that 1 in 2,500 people (.04%) who received both doses of the vaccine in the trial got infected with COVID. 95% less than those who did not receive the vaccine.

I'm guessing Moderna is similar. I only looked up Pfizer because that's what I gots.

People also sometimes think about this the wrong way too... like, envisioning that you are surrounded by a mine field that stops 95% of attackers... but the reality is that it probably has more to do with how your body generates antibodies. So it's more like you put it in the arms of 50 people, and 49 of those people are basically 100% protected due to their biology, and 1 person, for whatever reason, won't have the same response and will be in danger of infection. I'm not a scientist, but I'm pretty sure this is closer to how it works. If I'm incorrect, please let me know.

Wife has had no adverse reaction at all to Moderna shot two besides the same sore arm and itchy injection site she had for shot one.

I got nothing either besides the arm soreness. I’m being stupid in that I am kind of mad that my immune system is just lazy as fuck.

May 1st seems way too late for us. We're opening up at a fairly rapid rate, I'm interacting with hundreds of people a day at this point, yet you still basically have to be a senior or a health care worker to get vaccinated. Just my little mask and mostly-clean-as-much-as-possible hands keeping me from being a covid amplifier.

May is absolutely ridiculous. We have a lot of risk that people who are happy to get the vaccine who will back burner it as things return to normal, and make no mistake we are moving that direction no matter what the vaccine situation is. Wasting vaccine appointments because of phasing has already started to reverse ramp up in many major markets. Ridiculous

My own tests were self administered, I actually would have preferred to have had someone else do it and just brain scrape me tbh because I wasn't 100% sure I was going in far enough (probably was on the second time though considering I started sneezing from how far in I'd gone).

Just got this text well after I'm past the 28 day mark on Pfizer, seems...not great. Definitely gonna confuse some people who get it.

3 ft enough for elementary; 6 ft best for middle, high schools if cases are high.
