~*Official #COVID-19 Thread of Doom*~ Revenge of Omicron Prime

I applaud the mask order by Abbott. A lot of cowardly mayors and county judges have left business owners to face the wrath alone for doing the right thing and requiring masks. Took too long but still happy to see it happen.

Mechanically oxygenating the blood of a 33 year old....At least it seems to be a better treatment than ventilators early on.

(This isn't directed at you, just a general statement) It's fucking frustrating when I hear "I'll survive anyways." This piece was a nice glimpse into reality but I'm hoping it doesn't give people false hope that some treatments are just around the corner. ECMO is such a scarce resource, both the physical machine and the staff to run it (perfusionists or RN specialists). So far we're seeing a 50% survivability rate with ECMO.

We're definitely having the same experiences - higher acuity needing more staff (some days we're needing 19 nurses for 12 COVID patients), loss of words for why labs are wonky, isolation affecting patients and staff. Super thankful we're not surging (yet), but the wait and anxiety is brutal. I'm absolutely concerned, nearby areas are impacted and trying to offload to other hospitals.

COVID fucking sucksssssss.

I’m not sure which county judges and mayors you are referring to. My understanding of Abbott’s previous order prohibited counties from mandating a mask on an individual so counties mandated it on businesses because it was a loophole to try to do something.

Perhaps you meant the numerous counties that didn’t issue the mandate on businesses. I work in one of those counties and we have had our own mask policy since April.  I just had a visitor today that decided to take his mask off in a meeting on our premises and I had to stop him and tell him to put it back on. I don’t think people realize how rude it is to take it off or they just don’t care.

I would like to know how masks relate at all to Marxism too. Rush said it, but how?

He’s only 3 months late. Abbott is a complete failure. I’m still thankful he did this, but it took hospitals being nearly filled to capacity for him to take a modest action like this.

That's why we have Texas judges. To save us from the tyrant Greg Abbott.

Oh Wow. Texas ladies and gentlemen.

edit: I was defending county judges because many of them in larger cities were begging for more authority to restrict gatherings and mandate masks.

Thanks for posting that link. If anyone else hasn't read it yet I definitely suggest checking it out.  That equipment and process is both amazing and extremely terrifying to me! It makes me feel good machines like that exist. But between damage done to the body from the virus, and damage from the equipment saving your life, recovery sounds like it could be months, years, or you're just never the same again. Scary stuff.

A common theory I see is that this is a test (by, like, the globalist new world order or whatever) to see what people will comply with willingly for when they do the REAL marxist stuff a few years down the line.

I bow my head in shame for not being more skeptical about this story when I saw it.

We're not journalists, it's not as easy for us to intuit what's missing. I wasn't as skeptical at first either, but now I know better.

Decent short thread on why deaths appear to be dropping even as cases skyrocket:

tl;dr: Wait a few weeks. Deaths are increasing in the places seeing case increases, but they have (so far) been decreasing faster in areas that got it under control NY, NJ). The two curves are about to cross, and deaths will likely increase again soon.

I was listening to the local NPR station and they had a doctor on that said he believes a major factor here is the much lower average age of infection in the positive tests. I’m sure there are many factors in the current data though.

The right is being incredibly myopic in regards to this.  There is no doubt that when you have 50,000 new infections per day, we will absolutely have more deaths in a few weeks than we have right now.  Deaths are a lagging indicator, not a leading indicator of the current state of the pandemic.

Like Deaths in the US have been pretty stable, but unlike 2 months ago 9 people in NY died in the last 24 hours, soooo yeah.  Like the only good thing about the current spread is that its spread throughout a massive area instead of within like 100 mile bubble so theres a lot more capacity to meet it, but if that keeps rising it won't matter.
