OK, from what I saw in today's video, Sucker Punch appears to have made an extremely competent one of "those" games.

If I had to give the game a score based solely on the video alone, I'd give it a 7.5/10, and I'm pretty sure my actual score if/when I play it wouldn't be all that different -- maybe a deviation of +/- 0.5 but certainly not more than that unless my impressions are totally off-base.

This is the feeling that I was referring to earlier as well. It looks good. Will probably be fun. However, unless reviews and impressions are through the roof, I can probably wait to get it either on sale, or birthday/Christmas.

Yeah - keeping my pre-order is pretty much a coin-flip at the moment.

Yeaaaa...that was full-on Open World Game Template: Japan.

Looks aggressively mediocre gameplay-wise despite the cool setting.

I'd pick it up for really cheap just to play in the setting for a while but between Nioh and Sekiro this gen, that weak sword combat is looking even more boring. Also sticky auto-platforming...big no no for me.

I got the same feeling. I hope there are some more interesting mechanics hidden in the skill tree, because that game demo made it look (at least on the surface) like an old AC game (without the traversal) with a Japanese skin. A very pretty skin, tbh.

This looks like one of those games that everyone is going to be hyped for yet no one will be talking about two weeks later. Kinda like how Days Gone came and went.

Days Gone was a long game and got a lot of free DLC updates and patches. Conversation didn’t really die, everyone’s got an opinion on it.

I think Rage 2 Is probably a better example of what you’re talking about.

As for this game, the combat and stealth sections look kind of interesting.  But the open world stuff really didn’t grab me from what they showed.

Nah I think he got it right. People still discussed days gone 2 weeks after it came out.

People were hyped for Rage 2, said it sucked almost immediately and stopped talking about it. :p

Days Gone was also one of those games that once people actually played it, realized it was kinda good so...

Days Gone was talked about for a long time and was heavily supported by Bend months and months after release.

No I'm agreeing with him not you.

(Hint: Rage 2 didn't last for 2 weeks of discussion)

You're still agreeing with Crispy; he's saying exactly what you are. :p

Plus, people were trying to shit on it before it came out.

Yeah, but no one talked about it after those 2 weeks

No one talked about Rage after 2 days, not 2 weeks. I don't see how this isn't hard to grasp. And I could go with the "oh it was supported months after release" excuse you went with. Rage 2 got an expansion pack like 4 months after, it was still supported and I remember it!

Except tons of people were talking about. It was also in the Top 20 last year. Rage 2 showed up nowhere.

It was also a long enough game that it's kind of impossible not to talk about it after two weeks. Took me a good month to plat IIRC.

Visual cues and animals guiding your character to quests and secrets sound very intriguing to me.

I did also like that aspect. I got chuckle out of them still using "MARKED SPOT (485M)" on the top left in a sterile system font while the wind guides you very artistically though but I assume you can turn that off in the options.

I still see Days Gone pop up a lot, just not on here. People seemed to warm up to it as a solid 7/10 'pretty alright!' type of game.

I think it looks stupid but fact is, it sold well and a lot of people seem to like it a whole lot more than review scores implied if I remember correctly. Come to think of it, maybe I should give that a try as well after thinking I'd fucking hate Death Stranding and laughing at it only for it to be one of my favorites this gen.

do it episode 3 GIF by Star Wars

A lot of us would score it far higher. The things that set it back for me have to do with polish, as I recall.

See this is why I thought you'd like that Neurosis album. Your opinions shift like the sands of the Sahara. One day you say, "oh this is garbage," the next day you say, "I love it!" :p

I like the visual clues.  I just thought the follow the fox for a heart piece (or whatever) was dumb.

You could tell they were trying to sell the open world with a BoTW-like pitch.  The world guides you and is designed around what you can see at a given point.  Yet there still are ‘?’s given to you on the map and no puzzles to speak of.  It lacks subtlety.

They sure do sometimes but they didn't about Days Gone, I'm just saying I might like it after really enjoying some games I thought I'd hate this gen and kind of hating others I was sure I'd be into. Days Gone looks stupid as fuck to me but again, so did Death Stranding and I think it's fantastic.

It's very much AC Japan with some hardcore color grading going on. It's hard to say for sure if the execution here will be enough for me to love it, but it certainly looks like something I'm interested in. If the story is really well done or the progression system is sufficiently addicting, I could easily spend a bunch of time with this one.

Is the whole Samurai/Ninja thing interchangeable or are they two different builds/playstyles? Can you create a hybrid of the two? Can you use both in one playthrough?

I may be wrong but it seems to be more just your outfits and stealth vs. not stealth? I didn't catch that there are real different paths based on it.
