I hope this game is good, although I'm starting to get the feeling that it might merely be ok.

I think how you feel about this game will entirely depend on how you feel about developer Sucker Punch. Did you like the original Sly Cooper trilogy? Did you like the Infamous trilogy? Depending on your answers to those two questions, you can probably safely assume what you'll be getting here.

I never played the Sly Cooper games, but I did like the Infamous games. Trust me I'm aware of Smucker Punch's pedigree, there's just this feeling that I'm having. Not sure why, but I hope it's a wrong feeling.

An open world platformer with super powers starring a thieving raccoon...?

I liked Infamous a lot, but putting that aside, I see nothing that makes me nervous. When it came to Horizon, I was told, "Killzone so it's not gonna be good." Naughty Dog didn't do anything I was enamored with (as much fun as Crash was) until Uncharted/Last of Us. Santa Monica had low morale for much of the 2010s after GOW: Ascension and some here hyped the layoffs there to the moon. I loved, absolutely loved, Days Gone even though I was told it can't be good because Sony Bend or something. And I was also told that Death Stranding was just going to be walking, and it ended up being a captivating and amazingly unique experience, one of the most unique I've played in quite some time.

Tsushima looks like an ambitious, beautiful game, and I hope it delivers. Sucker Punch is a talented studio.

I hated Killzone but loved Horizon Zero Dawn so I don’t know if you can truly draw conclusions from past work unless the creative director is the same across all series.

Agreed. I also wasn’t really a fan of anything Naughty Dog did before Uncharted. Hell watch The Last of Us 2 trailer and the whole team keep reminding yourself that this from the Crash Bandicoot developers haha.

I wonder who told you that. Personally I said, "Not killzone so it's gonna be good."

and it was. :)

Concern trolls, mostly. :p  But basically, despite good hands-on impressions and a great looking world, Killzone, therefore probably not that good.

My post was more in terms of gameplay - people are worried the gameplay in this is more like the Batman Arkham games. Sly Cooper and Infamous might be different types of games, but the underlying core of both are platforming, etc. Expect something similar here is what I mean in terms of gameplay. Unless Sucker Punch suddenly makes a different game than their entire gameography has been to this point, we're gonna get more platforming, fast action ala Batman Arkham, etc. Don't expect a Soulsborne type game I imagine.

Killzone is a unique example because it's pretty clear Guerrilla Games never intended to make so many of those. And as someone who played all of the Killzone games, there's lots of Killzone's DNA in Horizon, just as there is a ton of MGS5 in Death Stranding.

The same will be the case here.

The concept of this game is right up my alley and I'm excited to play it, but I also have a nagging feeling that it may just be more of the same.  I'll reserve judgement until I can see it in action and hear about how it plays, but I think I'm just mostly done with open-world games unless they can adjust the formula.  I tried to play HZD and found it really boring.  If this has a really cool pitch I'm interested, but if it's open-world with a skill-tree I think I'm out.

The previous gameplay demo sure looked like “Batman-style” stealth and combo stringing to me. I didn’t see anything block heavy (nor did I see much in the way of platforming).
I’m looking forward to seeing more of GoT, because I don’t think I’ve seen enough to form any sort of informed opinion about this one yet.

What I figured. Would be me surprised if it didn't. Hopefully the Japanese acting isn't over the top like in anime or JRPGs. I would think this being as more grounded game it wouldn't be, and the acting would be something like from a Kurosawa film.

There are Japanese language trailers online.

Whoa! What? What do you mean by that? Who here did that?

Concern trolls, I think most of them aren't here anymore. Couldn't make a single Santa Monica thread, even positive ones, without "concern" about the layoffs and the fall of the studio. They always show up for negative Sony news claiming that they're just asking questions. It's weird.

What is this, NeoGAF? Pretty sure you can just get away with straight out saying 'fuck that studio' here. Passive aggressive 'concern' is so bad.

You'd think.

Doesn't really happen as much anymore, if at all. Like, I know Brick's legit.
