Frozen II: With an estimated $85.2 million three-day and a $123.7 million five-day performance, Disney's Frozen II not only topped the standard and extended weekend, it delivered record performances serving as the largest three and five-day grosses over the Thanksgiving holiday frame ever. To go along with that, the film has now grossed over $287 million in just ten days of release trailing just Incredibles 2 over the same number of days, which stood at an impressive $349.7 million after just ten days. In fact, Frozen II is already the 17th highest grossing animated film ever and is showing little sign of stopping.

Knives Out: In second place is Lionsgate's release of Rian Johnson's Knives Out, which came in well ahead of expectations, delivering an estimated $41.7 million over the five-day weekend, serving as the 16th largest five-day Thanksgiving opening ever. The film is also looking at a strong run ahead as word of mouth seems high thanks to an "A-" CinemaScore and what is currently an 8.1/10 rating on IMDb. The opening weekend audience was 51% male with 68% of the overall crowd coming in aged 25 or older.

I had no doubt that Frozen 2 would destroy the box office, but I’m glad that Knives Out made some money. It doesn’t have the “big studio picture” prestige of even something like Ford v Ferrari, and it’s easy to see it making single digit millions. They really pushed the marketing hard for such a relatively small movie though, so I guess that paid off.

Good movies for grown ups can make money, especially in the holiday frame as families look for things to do together.

Yup because folks will dump the kids in the kiddie move and go see the more adult film themselves. Whenever I'm home for the holldays we usually split up when we go to the movies but it's usually a LOT of us.

My sister only makes it to the theater for a couple non-kid movies a year. After I wouldn’t shut up about it,  she and her husband went to see Knives Out over the Thanksgiving break, and they loved it. Having the extra time due to the holiday was key there, since they’re usually too busy.

Same. My wife and I only get to 3 or 4 movies a year at this point. There was no way we were missing Knives Out. So good.
