A big part of the original Resident Evil 3 was the introduction of a constant pursuer in Nemesis. You could never be quite sure where he’d pop up next, and if you did encounter him, you had another problem on your hands: He could follow you from one area to the next. Sounds just like a certain fedora-wearing, boot-stomping creature from earlier this year, doesn’t it? Nemesis, as something of an “upgrade” to the line of Bio Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) that Tyrant hails from, was also a bit more intelligent and capable using weapons – even those who haven’t played the original game likely know he’s fond of rocket launchers.

Alongside Nemesis, the original Resident Evil 3 introduced a number of new features, including a unique dodge mechanic that, with just the right timing, could let you get out of the way of nearly any attack, and cutting-edge polygonal graphics mixed with fixed camera angles to create a sense of dread. You never knew what was around the next corner, just a camera cut away.

Of course, bringing a classic game into the present day means improved tech and modern flourishes. Resident Evil 3 follows its predecessor by swinging the camera over Jill’s shoulder to put you dead-center in the horror that’s unfolding all around, while cutting-edge photogrammetry is used to scan in actors and create true-to-life performances – that includes scanning in real people for the zombies, too! The undead certainly never looked so life-like. Just like with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 7 biohazard before it, you can expect heightened horror and plenty of terrifying encounters among the city streets.

Super excited for this.

HOWEVER, Carlos's hair is bugging the absolute shit out of me. As someone blessed with thick ass Hispanic hair, that's would mine would look like if I ever let it grow out. It's hot as shit. I hope the game lets Carlos borrow Jill's hairband for a while, cuz damn, that dude's gonna pass out.

It's also the reason why I never let my hair get longer than like, a half-inch.

You can put the classic costume on him if you want to give him a trim

With how much I adored RE7 and the RE2 remake, having this one hit so close (I assume they worked on them together) after the last one is one of those rare dream-come-true moments, I expected we'd be waiting years, minimum.

Capcom kicking ass and taking names this time around! Having the multiplayer game be included is brilliant, since those of us who always kind of throw up a little at the thought of buying a standalone RE multiplayer game now have no excuse to not at least give it a quick look to see if it's worth investing time in, which should greatly bolster the initial playerbase, which should in turn, if the game is good, keep it alive far longer. AND it looks like it gets a simultaneous launch on every platform, as I didn't see them mention a staggered PC release date, and there was a Steam logo at the end, so if it had a later date I'd assume it'd get announced there. Waiting the extra month for 2 kinda sucked. (It was a month, right? This year feels like 5. Or was that RE7?)

10/10 so far!

I'll actually play the fucking multiplayer thing now. As a stand-alone game, hell no, but as an extra blast-zombies mode, totally.

All in all this looks like a killer package and the "developer message" video cleared up a lot of questions I had and made me really excited. It really does appear to be a more fleshed-out take on RE2 Remake in some ways.

Day 1 100%

Edit: Actually this makes me want to jump back into RE2, I never finished my very last Hard run. I did beat it like 6 times total though.

They all hold up but RE4 is one of the top tier "holds up" games. I've beaten that game probably ten times over the years, last one being the PS4 HD version, and it's still fucking fantastic.

That is the widely accepted opinion.

I think 4 drags in spots and feels in some ways more dated than the traditional versions - a consequence of it kind of pushing forward 3rd person games at the time, but now that gameplay style has evolved significantly.

I don't have anything against 4, but personally played it twice and that was good.

It's okay to be cataclysmically wrong, it's 2019, we'll go get a latte afterwards and hug this shit out okay?

I'm still waiting for RE2 remake to go on sale for around $20. Capcom will probably announce a Code Veronica remake before this one finally does as well...

It's on sale on both PSN and XBL for $20.

Yeah, RE2 is really incredible. I played the demo alone for several hours (one-shot my ass!) because of how smooth it felt. Just controlling your character feels so awesome. It's what I've been saying for years: Your horror character doesn't have to control like shit for you to feel helpless or afraid, that was always the worst excuse and I will never accept it. And I didn't even hate tank controls, just found them a little clunky. All in all I've beat RE2 on every single difficulty multiple times just because each difficulty was fun for different reasons. Then I played through it again with cheat engine just to fuck with the game and see how everything worked. I never do this with ANY game. Playing through a game twice is an extreme rarity for me, let alone firing it up again 6+ times before ever putting it down.

I have to say I kind of agree with how RE4 has aged though. I still find it very playable, and I'd already beaten it several times when it was new, but nowadays once I get past the village, or rather once I get to the castle, I kind of lose interest. That village opening is just so damned good. It was unlike anything I'd ever played when it was new, and being able to enter all the houses and avoid enemies while running from them and exhausting your resources... I just don't think any other point of the game reached that crazy good level design/encounter design of the very first village. The rest of it isn't bad, that part was just so good. All this talk about it kind of makes me want to go reinstall it, though!

Looks really good. Capcom is still great.

tbh, I feel like Capcom became great again (not a political reference lol) this gen after seemingly falling off during the HD transition.

What I'm really impressed with is, I never could get into RE. I couldn't handle the tank controls, and then during the PS3/360 generation, the change in direction hurt its reputation among many fans. But this resurgence, starting with RE7, has gotten me into Resident Evil for the first time in my life. I'm now one of those who can't wait for their next Resident Evil announcement because they've done such a splendid job.

Kudos to Capcom!

Jill Valentine looks a little like Natalie Portman. I'm excited for this next we need in RECV.

RECV is probably the one that needs it the most, but not because of the graphics. It would give them an opportunity to fix the cringy moments and that god awful Steve character. Probably one of the most universally hated characters in the RE franchise.

Maybe get rid of the entire John Woo action intro while theyre at it.
