Parasite - Oct. 11

Parasite had a huge weekend, making over $375,000 in just 3 theaters.

As of now, it doesn't look like it'll be coming to my city this weekend or the next. In the meantime, I'm going to finally get caught up on his other films. I had already seen Snowpiercer and Memories of Murder, and this morning I watched The Host, which was a wild ride.

Don't miss his first film, Barking Dogs Never Bite. It's plenty good, but rough around the edges being his first film (he then did the fantastic Memories of Murder).

Btw, the real life killer from Memories of Murder? Just recently the police found him. Turns out he has been in jail for several years for a separate murder, and they used DNA to link him to the serial killings.

Was it the same guy that they thought it was in Memories of Murder?

Never seen a single one of his films yet, where should I start? Please, something accessible if he's mega-artsy or something along the lines.

The trailer here also tells me basically zero but there seems to be a hype around his name alone so I'm curious.

He's not super artsy in that way - he just makes beautiful moving films. Start with Memories of Murder. It's his best film he's made so far (closely followed by Mother). This is the order I'd watch them (production order is how I'd normally go, but in terms of best). All his movies are great though.

-Memories of Murder

-Mother

-Snowpiercer

-Okja

-Barking Dogs Never Bite

-The Host

Cool thanks. Wasn't there a director's cut, or something along those lines, of Snowpiercer? I remember reading a lot of negative things about it but then than the "uncut" version was great?

Man that's going way back. Originally they were going to cut the film for US release, but there was such an outcry from fans (and Joon-ho Bong) that they switched distributors and it was released uncut, as intended. So the uncut version is the only version out there.

None of his films have director's cuts or anything. :)

Just note his film "Mother" came out in 2009 and is different from Darren Aronofsky's "mother!" which is super artsy (great movie as well, to me at least) and came out in 2017 and is an entirely different movie (though both are about mothers and motherhood).

I did see the Aronofsky movie yeah. I thought it was mainly interesting, can't say I thought it was particularly great or anything myself. He frustrates me in general though. Requiem is a really important movie to me and just fucking incredible. I also really really like Pi and love Black Swan but I keep waiting for something else from him to blow me away for some reason.

Oh he's the guy who did the host. I guess I'll pass on Parasite then!

I was originally trolling but I love you two too much to keep it up 💕

(Still, The Host did nothing for me though :p )

The Host is good but my least favorite of his movies, if that helps any.

Also, this isn't a random board. Why are you trolling friends in a way we wouldn't even be able to tell? :p
