The plot seems like a clever way to give a sense of urgency to a war that often lacked it. It certainly looks amazing. I'm in.

Gorgeous photography as expected, and @TwinIonmakes a good point about the hook here.

There's a reason for that.

The film's editor is Lee Smith who won an Oscar for his work on...Dunkirk!

Really does seem like Sam Mendes watched Dunkirk and thought, 'Shit, that was awesome; how can I get in on that?'

Holy moly. That's quite a thing.

Seems like an early contender to get Deakins his second Oscar. Sure he got one, but they kinda owe him a few more.

If the movie ends up being good then he’s probably the favorite. Ad astra coming in hard for that Oscar though

Caught a screening and Deakins should start writing his acceptance speech now. There is one sequence at night that particularly accentuates how this man is at the absolute height of his craft. His choices are so consistently strong, not a wasted light anywhere.

I second this. Geez Louise, this was a thrill ride and a half.

Strange, the first impressions I saw on twitter were pretty rough, basically calling it all style over substance. Not that anything would keep me out of a theater to see this one.

It’s already been nominated for best picture at the Hollywood critics association

Would you recommend IMAX as well?

I would watch it on whatever is the best screen you can see it, but the post work they did to prep it for Dolby Cinema makes it the most preferred format. The Imax presentation should be solid though!

Cool. I can't see yet what my local theatre is playing it in, but I do expect it to be available in IMAX, D-Box, and Ultra AVX.
