  • This needed a significant boost to make it more worthy of Legendary status.

People Can Fly says it's been left in the dark by Square Enix.

Quote

Outriders developer People Can Fly says it hasn't seen any royalties from Square Enix yet, and doesn't even know how many copies of the game were sold.

The developer was due to receive royalties for the game's first quarter 45 days after its release, on August 16. In an investor note that went out on Tuesday, People Can Fly says they've still not been paid, suggesting that the game "did not break even" for Square Enix (thanks, EurogamerPL).

"We don't have any sales figures for Outriders," executive Sebastian Wojciechowski said as per a machine translation. "We estimate it at between two and three million units and assumed that this was a result that would ensure profitability for this project… the lack of payment by the publisher probably means that, according to Square Enix, it is not so."

I think they should probably get in touch with legal counsel.

Yeah the fanboys on Twitter are attacking Game Pass with this, but it's clearly an issue with the Publisher.  How the hell do you not have sales data if your royalties are tied to sales.

A Game Pass deal should be worked into that equation as well, and will need to be accounted for in future publishing deals.

Its just baffling that a developer has no idea the in depth breakdowns of how their game sold, and exactly what they should be owed in royalties  based on those sales.

So Worldslayers looks like a $35 upgrade DLC for the game.

The WORLDSLAYER UPGRADE allows owners of OUTRIDERS to upgrade straight into the new WORLDSLAYER game content.

With new horrors to challenge you and new weapons, mods and gear to discover, you’ll be further developing your build through the new PAX hybrid branch class trees.

Survive the campaign and you’ll face even greater horrors in the Trials of Tarya Grata, the brand new endgame. Which partnered with Ascension Points offers a new long term progression system for the most committed players.

Finally, push hard through the new Apocalypse difficulty tiers, with each step up to level 40 increasing the chances of obtaining incredible Apocalypse gear and its game changing third mod slot.

KEY FEATURES:

PAX TREES
Introducing the Pax Trees. 2 additional skill tree branches per class extend your build customization options for deeper specialization or new hybrid builds.

ASCENSION POINTS
A long-term progression system purely designed to make you even stronger. Kill enemies, collect XP and level up to further specialise your build within the 4 categories of Ascension Points. Customise your Outriders in Brutality, Endurance, Prowess and Anomaly.

APOCALYPSE TIERS
The new Apocalypse Tier System increases your Max Gear Equip Level, increases Difficulty Tiers and most importantly improves Loot across both campaign and endgame.

APOCALYPSE LOOT
New Apocalypse weaponry and armour makes you even more brutal than ever before. Dedicated class specific full Legendary armour sets plus universally equipable 3 piece sets are available to be found. All with set bonuses.

3RD MOD SLOT
All new Apocalypse gear has that deadly new third mod slot for increased killing power and customization.

NEW MODS
Loads of new Mods to enhance both your survivability or damage dealing abilities in a variety of spectacularly brutal ways.

A JOURNEY OF DEATH
Humanity’s hope for survival rests on your journey deep into the cradle of Enoch’s civilisation.

DYNAMIC 1-3 PLAYER CO-OP
Play solo or join up to 2 friends in drop-in drop-out co-op as you take on the horrors of a hyper-evolved planet in an apocalypse.

4 UNIQUE CLASSES
Create and customise your own Outrider and choose from 4 unique powerful classes each with its own deadly array of brutal abilities with Skill Trees and Pax Trees to further define your personal playstyle.

GUNS & GEAR
Customise and upgrade your Outrider(s) with countless combos of the most powerful Epic, Legendary and Apocalypse items with increasing damage potential. Gear can be modified with up to 3 mod slots allowing players to fully customise their loadout to match their playstyle. As well as a full and entirely free Transmog system across all items.

POWER
Adapt your abilities and skills across vast Class Skill Trees and Pax Trees for additional hybrid branch boosts. Challenge yourself against all Apocalypse Tiers with your burgeoning power and boost your Ascension Points of Brutality, Endurance, Prowess and Anomaly.

ENDGAME
Earn incredible loot as you dominate across endgame Expeditions or face new horrors in the ancient city of Tarya Gratar.

This came out. Sounds like the difficulty is up there so you need to do it co-op. Good DLC if you liked the original but won't change any minds if you didn't. The DLC is not part of game pass so you have to pay $35 to play it.

Critic Reviews

33bits - Rubén Rionegro - Spanish - 70 / 100

Outriders Worldslayer offers us a new story that expands the lore of the game, but beyond that there is no major news that makes us want to get hold of this content, since the gameplay remains identical and there is no type of playable evolution. The postgame content is very worthwhile, but there have also been a number of questionable design decisions and a high price for what it offers.

GameSpew - Richard Seagrave - 8 / 10

Ask yourself this: did you play Outriders simply for its campaign and then drop it, or did you push yourself through its expeditions, going as far as you could go? For those in the former camp, Worldslayer probably isn’t for you. At least not at full price, anyway. You’ll blast through the campaign in 10 hours or less and then be left twiddling your thumbs. For those enamoured with Outriders‘ unique brand of high-octane combat seeking to max out their characters and optimise their builds, however, Worldslayer should be considered a must-have.

GamingTrend - David Burdette - 80 / 100

Outriders Worldslayer is more Outriders, and that's not a bad thing. While the story doesn't do much, the game as a whole is still one of the most fun third person shooters out there right now, with a feel to the gameplay that is a blast to play. The addition of the Trials of Tarya Gratar end game content is worth every penny, and the new gear, skills, and Apocalypse tiers ensure you'll want to stick around and grind for a good while.

God is a Geek - Mick Fraser - 8 / 10

Outriders: Worldslayer refines the overall experience, adding a heap of new content and minor improvements that make it an essential expansion - just don't go in alone unless you're armed for bear.

IGN - Travis Northup - 7 / 10

Outriders Worldslayer doubles down on everything from the base game, both the good and the bad.

MMORPG.com - Aaron Couture - 7 / 10

The bones of Worldslayer are excellent, but the story and end game content are greatly lacking. I would love to see a hybrid system that comes in smaller chunks of content at a faster pace, such as in the form of a season passes. Leave out the microtransactions and add $10 clips of content quarterly, that way players can feel like the story is still alive. As it stands, the story abruptly ended in a frustrating way. I am rooting for Outriders to succeed as one of the best looter shooters, but right now the end game is going to get just as tedious as the previous end game content.

Screen Rant - Natalie Lindner - 3.5 / 5

Many gamers likely remember Outriders' difficult launch on all platforms, which featured dozens of visual glitches, crashes, bland gameplay systems, and unfinished touches. However, the game's previous New Horizons update and the Worldslayer DLC have redeemed it in many ways. Worldslayer's biggest appeal is its increased loot pool and finalized endgame, but players shouldn't expect more than a few dozen hours of gameplay before running out of content. The existing bugs aren't enough to completely ruin the DLC, and are likely to be fixed with a launch day patch or later update. Those who enjoyed Outriders after its New Horizons patch (or are looking for an opportunity to join the franchise) should experience Outriders Worldslayer.

The Games Machine - Marco Bortoluzzi - Italian - 7.3 / 10

Outriders Worldslayer follows in the same vein of Outriders, quite literally: one year later, both its strenghts (tight gameplay, loot management) and flaws (poor enemy variety, lackluster boss design, weak plot) have stayed exactly the same. Very likely you'll enjoy this expansion if you liked the base game, but if you didn't this won't make you change your mind.

VG247 - James Billcliffe - 3 / 5

It’s silly and nerdy and dark and takes no prisoners as it violently demands your attention from start to finish.

Wccftech - Alessio Palumbo - 7.5 / 10

Outriders: Worldslayer provides an exceedingly brief albeit intense story campaign, though its meat is clearly in the vastly improved endgame experience. The Trial of Tarya Gratar, the Apocalypse gear, and Ascension and PAX systems all contribute to a better, deeper endgame. Ultimately, though, the game plays exactly the same as the original Outriders and is unlikely to win over any new fans.

WellPlayed - Adam Ryan - 7 / 10

Expanding on the already fun combat while offering a new and improved endgame mode, Worldslayer is worth heading back to Enoch for, even if the story told on the trip is a forgettable one.

XboxEra - Jesse Norris - 8 / 10

Outriders: Worldslayer is a solid 8 or so hour expansion that adds a seemingly long and quite enjoyable endgame grind to what was already a solid title. With the base game on Game Pass, it is worth giving that a shot and if you like it just know that this expansion is available, and it’s damned good. It takes everything the main campaign has and dials it up to eleven in a brilliantly dumb-fun kinda way.
