It’s not saying much.  But I view that more as a slight against most else on display.

Their demo looked straight-up fun in a year where not much fun is being shown.  They deserve the props for producing a proper stage demo which was by all reasonable accounts, good.

And if there was more good things to say about this E3, I think its showing still would have been a highlight.

Live stage gameplay demos are becoming a lost art in a sea of trailers and fluff teasers.  Good on Square Enix for delivering; this is the most competent they have looked in years.

Hard to tell how fun or interesting the combat is from a video, but it looks like it has potential.

As far as the episodic nature of the game, if they make each episode worth full price, it's fine by me. If it's clearly one game split into multiple pieces, that's a problem.

During a behind-closed-doors demo at E3 2019 of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake, producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed that the physical edition of the first episode in the remake will require two blu-ray discs when it is released on March 3, 2020.

That's largely due to the sheer size of the game. Kitase confirmed that every game, or episode, in this series will be comparable to a full Final Fantasy game. Which means we can likely expect the following installments of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake to also require two blu-ray discs on current-gen hardware.

I'm not digging the English voices or Tiffa's redesign.

I'll wait for a PC release where I can get mods to fix stuff

Eh what's wrong with Tifa's design?

The only voice that seems weird to me is Aerith since it sounds fakely high pitch.  At least you won't have to hear it for long.......

1. Thinking of the game as “episodic,” at least how the word normally applies to games, seems like a mistake. Square Enix confirmed what it said three years ago: each part of Final Fantasy VII Remake is a full game.
2. This isn’t a side-project; the team at Square Enix views this game as the next full numbered entry in the Final Fantasy series.
3. The team feels that Midgar represents Final Fantasy VII better than any other location.
4. The second installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake is in the planning stages.
5. The voice cast is different; Square Enix says a new generation of performers is the best way for newcomers and old fans to experience Final Fantasy VII Remake.
6. Our demos show the raid on Mako Reactor 01, which seems to be the beginning (or very near the beginning) of the game once again.
7. The map and layout of the reactor is practically the same as it was in the original version of Final Fantasy VII, except you explore it in 3D.
8. During combat, slowing down time using tactical mode gives you time to select commands. You can (but you don’t need to) assign your favorite commands to shortcuts.
9. You can lock onto your targets with R3, or slash freely with the square button.
10. You build up your limit gauge by taking damage.
11. Barret’s limit break in the demo is called “Fire in the hole,” and it’s big charged blast from his arm cannon.
12. Cloud’s Braver attack is just a regular ability now, but Cross Slash is a limit break.
13. In addition to Braver, Cloud has special attacks called Focused Thrust and Triple Slash.
14. You build up your ATB charges by landing attacks. When you’re playing, they refill pretty quickly, encouraging you to use them liberally instead of hoarding them.
15. Using standard attacks, blocking (holding R1), and evading (pressing circle) don’t cost ATB.
16. Actions that require expending your ATB include: Using items, activating abilities, and casting spells.
17. Using magic costs MP in addition to the ATB charge.
18. In addition to their regular attacks and special abilities, each character has a unique feature mapped to the triangle button.
19. Cloud’s unique feature is switching stances; he goes between “operator mode” (standard speed and damage) and “punisher mode” (slower speed, higher damage).
20. Barret’s unique feature is “overcharge,” which is a single big shot, rather than his usual continuous fire.
21. During combat, you can swap between party members by pressing up or down on the d-pad.
22. I could not swap between characters during exploration; after battle, control reverts to Cloud.
23. Treasure chests are scattered around, and you open them with the triangle button. You can’t open them if you are engaged in battle.
24. The materia system is returning and will be similar to the one in the original game, though Square Enix wouldn’t dive into the details.
25. At least for Cloud’s sword, it appears that the equipped materia is represented cosmetically on the weapon.
26. Jessie (one Barret’s crew) gets sort of flirty with Cloud. She talks about how cute he is, and is curious about how “close” he is with Tifa.
27. The screen takes on a static-like visual and audio distortion when people mention things about Cloud’s past, like his relationship with Tifa, or his time in SOLDIER.
28. During one of these distortions, Cloud sees a single black feather falling.

During a behind-closed-doors appointment with Square Enix for the Final Fantasy VII remake, producer and original Final Fantasy VII director Yoshinori Kitase gave a presentation about various aspects of the new game. As if to head off the inevitable questions about the remake's content split at the pass, Kitase remarked that the first game focuses just on the dystopian metropolis of Midgar and that, while limited to that city, it has as much content as any mainline Final Fantasy title.

I think the English voices are good. Better than most JRPG ENG dub, but I don't like that the lip sync isn't good. Like, the current eng dub is good enough that I'd prolly use it, but with the bad lip sync I rather use JP dub.  And uh, how is Tifa redesigned?

Stockings and visible sports bra is hardly a change. Her tits really don't look much smaller either, just more smushed.

I've never really been a fan of Japanese to English voice acting. Whatever union those guys all belong to have a distinct sound to me that all sound horrible - as opposed to US produced VA's (you're Billy West's, Seth McFarlane's, Cam Clarke's, etc). And watching the Japanese language trailer already sounds 1000x better than the English one:

Jp version:

And pretty much the differences in Tiffa's design that Bacon described are a let down. He didn't mention how they also de-thicc'd her (Is that a word, even? lol) and how they gave her a larger skirt. Flame baiters want to troll any criticisms by spinning any reasonable opinions into "Her boobs are flat and I can't beat off to her now! / teh game suxxors!" But honestly from a design critique she shouldn't have had any changes since other characters didn't receive any (so far). She's meant to be this bad-ass, overly sexualized character who has a heart of gold. And with current pc climates she sticks out as a sore thumb now because she's the only character that did get changed with these subtle, non-stimulating visuals. I mean, they're so minor that they're not really noticeable. But they're so minor that they shouldn't have been made at all because it makes them that much more noticeable, imo.

And what's probably worse was that Square kept her redesign under wraps for so long when we got such an awesome redesign from an artist from Riot Games last year that made expectations from fans that much higher. The redesign wasn't anything official, but it trounces the SquareEnix model when both are compared:

Look, I am really not a Politically Correct guy in the fucking slightest. I ranted and raved about Fire Emblem and Xenoblade getting censored, but there is literally nothing wrong with Tifa's design. It is basically the exact same. And I think it is funny about the fan art, because people have been only been comparing new Tifa to fucking Fan art. New Tifa looks more like old Tifa than she does in the fan art. People have spent WAY too much time jacking off to fan art of Tifa and forgot what she actually looks like. @IdeaOfEvil

In regard to how many games there will be for this remake:

Yeah, this game isn't actually coming out for years. I don't care how much new shit there is. It is the same story and I am not gonna take this story in chunks. Like, I'd feel the same if OoT had the same shit happen to it.

The Japanese dub, like all Japanese dubs, sounds like hammy bullshit that weebs and idiots eat up because they think being screechy and irritating is the same as emotional range, and since they can't understand it, they don't have to worry about whether it's awkwardly delivered or anything.

That said, don't play the Japanese version expecting perfectly synced lips, either. Lip syncing in Japan is almost never an important thing. They just don't seem to give a fuck.

I mean, that's your opinion. And it's all good. But there are fans of this 22 year old game who legitimately wanted to see these characters in a high res remake who are now seeing their video game dream girl get changed from promiscuous to simple. And again, the fine line is that the changes are so subtle that why change anything at all? Your Barret comparison doesn't show him with skinnier arms, that are all mostly covered, with a smaller body frame like Tifa got, so I'm not seeing him as being a problem like Tifa is.

But again, I'm not looking to condemn or defend designs one way or another. The current Tifa design bugs me, and I'll simply wait for a pc mod to come out that will change her to looking more like her original FF7 design. If she's all good to you, then great! No harm, no foul imo.

And claiming that Blair's "fanart" is pure jackoff material is a great disservice to just how good that design render is (it's not just a picture, it's an actual 3d model that she made).

In games this detailed, the lip syncing is usually pretty good in the language it was made for. Especially in cut scenes. Like, even in anime, the lip sync is pretty damn good these days. I mean, you can only do so much with a cartoon, but yeah.

Um, real weebs can understand some Japanese. The eng dub is far more hammy. They literally can't even express emotion the characters are portraying. The "over acting" fits with the overly extreme forceful emotional bullshit the Japanese put into their media, Where as the the eng dub is either monotone, or even more over the top than the JP dub. Like, look, you can prefer the eng dub because you can't read and play at the same time, or whatever excuse you like to come up with. But the ENG dubs are almost never better, nor do they fit/match the characters and story.

So what you're saying is the acting in general is terrible because the writing is terrible and I should just turn voice acting off because this is some infantile shit for morons?

Got it.

Jesus dude. No, I am not saying that dudes render is fap material. It is good. But people don't want what a modern Tifa should look like, they want a fap bait Tifa, just like how she is in 90% of her fan art.

Wrong. Tifa doesn't have smaller arms. Look at this shit. Look at it. Look at  those ramen noodle fucking arms. Looks how much of her arms are covered. This is the

latest?cb=20110227161512

And Barret also now has an under shirt, similar to Tifa's sport bra. Barret's arm doesn't just decent into a weird ass gun thing now. There cloth and shit covering over half of his arm. Barret has new pant pouches. Barret also isn't as fucking wide either.

latest?cb=20120415142658

Look how fucking WIDE he is.

And here are other versions

of Tifa from FF7

Also, here is Advent Children, which seem to me where the new Barret and Tifa got their start.

New Tifa again

People just want fap bait Tifa just like in their porn. There are as many changes to Barret as there are to Tifa. And the only only reason I can see that people aren't happy is because she now wears a bra and her legs are covered. That and Maybe her gloves aren't red.
