"Works of art are never finished, they're abandoned." I forgot who said that but it's very true in the film and literary worlds. Probably even more true in game development.

Same with music. I worked on several studio projects and albums back in the day and it's never truly 'done', you just kind of settle with the best you can do within the boundaries of acceptable sacrifice. That might be studio budget, time, your mental state, the record label telling you to release the fucking thing already yadda yadda.

I didn't care much about cyberpunk, it always looked great but just seemed like a fever dream in the extremely distant future, but now that we're finally a month away after all these long years I'm starting to get hyped. I'm not going to allow myself to fall victim the the extremely lofty expectations that others have set for it, I'll judge it on it's merits.

Sucks it’ll be next year. But, there’s a 0% chance I’ll wait until that comes out. I’ll get the PS4 version to play on my PS5. Hopefully it’ll at least have much faster loading and maybe higher frames.

Yeah def sucks. But I figure there’s soooo much coming out around launch I’ll have plenty to play till then

Right now this game is the only thing I have looked forward to this year, if it falls flat it will likely be the proverbial straw and Ill bounce out of gaming all together.

I really do have the inkling that this will score in the 80s.   It won't be a "bad" game by any measure, but it's probably going to fall somewhat short of the sky-high expectations.

I think it'll garner mostly low 90's but considering the expectations that would probably be a colossal disappointment to many. I simply don't see it redefining a genre in the way that the Witcher 2 & 3 did, but I don't think it needs to in order to be a tremendous game. Even if it's basically just a GTA / Deus Ex hybrid I'm totally on board for that.

It’ll do well. It can’t possibly live up to the hype. No way. However, this will be a fantastic game that’s a blast to play. That’s just fine by me in that case!

November will be a Demon Souls/Cyberpunk month for me.

It seems like it's going to be a 9/10 type game in comparison to TW3 10/10/10. TW3 was able to build on the successes and learn from (some) of the failures of the previous games, while Cyberpunk is a new thing for them. Also Cyberpunk is going feel like a let down because people have built up totally unreasonable expectations for it. I really hope they manage to translate some of the charm they managed to infuse all the characters in the witcher with into the totally charmless world of cyberpunk.

I'll tell you one thing, regardless of reviews I'm very confidant that it will be significantly better than RDR2!

I saw video of someone pressing a button and the character immediately moving, which puts it at least 6 points ahead of RDR2 on a 10-point scale already.

Well, in everything but the story, no doubt. I prefer the story of RDR2 over TW3 despite them both being really great in that department. RDR2 has really great graphics and story, but the gameplay is just wack.

They story was definitely good, and the only reason I finished it. I'd still place Witcher's story above it though. It had me more invested in the characters with a bigger payoff.

Great documentary I came across today about the origins of Cyberpunk

It's part one of a series.

Watching this made me so damn nostalgic for that 80s/early 90s cyberpunk aesthetic. I loved everything with that look back then.

It's really a GREAT retrospective.

Parts 2 and 3 should be releasing "soon".

It also made me realize I need to read Neuromancer and play Snatcher. I've done neither and it's quite shocking considering how much I love this aesthetic. I tend to just watch Blade Runner and Akira over and over.

Blade Runner, Akira and Johnny Mnemonic were pretty much the sum total of pure Cyberpunk classics that I experienced aside from some random games and comics I may have come across over the years. I definitely want to track some of this stuff down, particularly the books that were mentioned.

Yeah that was REALLY well done... this guy is a very talented documentarian/editor if he's the one doing everything. I also watched his Elder Scrolls retrospective video and that one is ALSO very well done. Subscribed to his channel immediately.

I thought it was really engaging as well. I watched it on my commute in and ended up pushing being late to work in front of the building watching the rest.

I have to track down Snatcher somehow now as well. I mean yeah it looks like a straight Blade Runner rip but...it looks fucking awesome! I wanna play a Blade Runner rip from that era any day.

It may deserve it, but RDR2 proved that gameplay doesn't really matter with huge open world games when it comes to reviews.  If you have great graphics, good writing and an interesting story you will get a high opencritic average.  Witcher 3 proves that CDPR have the chops to hit on the graphics/writing/story.
