WOW,     IGN: Cyberpunk 2077 on ps4 and xbox 1 base consoles

Big Apologies for my ability to ramble seemingly forever about very little ahead of time...

I have read and seen the base ps4 and xbox1 statements about this game and I'm just blown away. I hadn't though watched any footage of the game being run on them. Giving IGN reliability here to as I greatly disagree on a large number of there statements, reviews, anything really they print...lol This though here is so huge. Someone high up needs firing here simple as that. I have agonizingly watched as the ps5, the series X, new RTX 30series cards were rolled out just chewing at the bit to buy one and to play this game. I managed to not buy any of them. I did try for a few minutes on each but I'm not one to try that hard on these paper launches. That said, I truly thought that this gen, this one would be the one to get me 4k/60 [minimum] all bells and whistles on and be done with it.  After seeing that even the 3090 isn't there yet, wow just wow. I feel like I dodged a big one here I mean in what to expect for this next gen. I'm now happily able to wait for my next BIG PC build until the 40series cards. This wont be easy, but I was bitten a little bit by buying a 2080Ti in mid 2019 so I feel this is financially the better way to go. . I do only want to play this game on PC, so I guess I'm waiting for now a very long time. I will buy the consoles as they become available late first quarter 2021, but man we still aren't quite there yet when were talking best standards to take advantage of all there is to offer. I know the 3090  is a beast, but it's not 2x a 3080 and it needed to be. God I love gaming, but circumstances starting way back in 2018 {Nov 9th to be exact} many of you know about have caused me to be very picky in what I buy now and this has NEVER BEEN THE CASE BEFORE!

In closing: Just a little bit of patience here is so needed in these fucked up times, and consoles and games and graphic are far from very important when we stop and look at the state of the world we live in right now. I'm gonna be in all these threads reading and watching you all enjoy this newest tech and games, and I'll catch up soon enough I hope. For those that have CP2077 on the base consoles though, what a shit show. This game could've used every bit of another 12 months to develop for, that's crazy for a 8year old announced game. blows me away, but we can not let practices like these go. We are there everything, releasing a game knowing that it's unplayable on these machines is absolutely unacceptable to say the very least...

God, I still want this game. Saved from myself only by being overwhelmed by the games that GamePass has been offering and dumping on top of me. Game on guys, enjoy. Be grateful for what we have now, feel empathy to those suffering in horrendous ways just wishing that a game they bought but won't run was there biggest blow to there lives....

The downgrade on base PS4/Xbox One consoles is pretty unconscionable by CDPR.

That being said, I just bought the game for my decently high-end PC (no RTX yet though, still on a 1080Ti) and it runs pretty beautifully in 2k/1440p at 60fps (I could do 4K and 30fps but I prefer the 60fps) with pretty much everything maxed out. So getting back to the actual game and its content, it's a lot of fun! It's a much lighter, breezier, dirtier version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. It makes me miss the fact that we never got another sequel, but this game plays a lot like those games, to the point I'd be surprised if CDPR weren't influenced by them.

Fun game so far, I'm only a few hours in and the world just opened up. Seems like a lot to do! I think the critics' reviews on this one are pretty accurate and on point, so long as the bugs/glitches/technical issues many people are experiencing are ignored. The actual game is pretty good so far - I'm playing on hard so the AI seems decently smart to me. I haven't personally run into any bugs/glitches yet fortunately.

I'm coming to realize that Cyberpunk is the closest I'm ever going to get to Prey 2, and I can finally let that game go.

Hmmm...I was going to check my system specs tonight to see if I can get into it on PC some time at a later date but this has me intrigued considering how much I loved that game. Are you playing it and seeing parallels?

I think @Moa might be referring to the version of Prey 2 that was cancelled, which had an unbelievably intriguing pitch and was a sequel to the Xbox 360 game Prey.

But Prey (2017) is incredible, and you should play Mooncrash if you haven't!

To be clear I have about 30 hours in it, I'm playing on a GTX 1080/Ryzen 1700 system with ok-ish performance at 1440p, and I'm having a very good time with the game.

I'm talking about the OG Prey 2 trailer from like a million years ago with the bounty hunter in a sci-fi setting. The general vibe of dirty sci-fi holds between the two. I'm playing a pistol/stealth build so am basically a future cowboy hunting people down with my silenced revolver. Most of the combat missions involve infiltrating a compound to reach some central objective, so there is plenty of future bounty hunter gunslinging to be had.

I totally forgot about that until you just brought it up and now it seems...really obvious

I've been meaning to pick up Mooncrash, yeah. I think you sold me on it here before. It didn't sound cool on paper but I think we discussed it one time and it sounded cool the way you, or another poster, described it.

For those playing Cyberpunk, immediately go to the settings and widen your field of view as much as possible (cranked mine to 100) and turn off film grain, chromatic aberration, depth of field, lens flare, and motion blur (they all start turned on by default).

Good Christ it helped the game's look on my eyes immensely. It's like how Mass Effect 1 started with the 80's film grain effect turned on initially by default when it first released and you were like: "I get why it's in here, but on default?" It'd be like starting up Ghost of Tsushima with Kurosawa mode on by default. Really helps Cyberpunk I think.

Honestly this game reminds me a lot of Mass Effect 1 in a couple ways. One is its graphical options like with the grain, but the other is that the gun play is just not fun.

Maybe its that I'm not far enough or not spec'ing into the right abilities, but 3 hours and I'm wondering if this will be like Mass Effect where the gun play is just never going to be good. I just have to appreciate the story that hasn't really evolved into anything yet?

:/ Are you playing on console? I find the gunplay surprisingly good for an RPG and a million times better than the ME1 gunplay, but I've heard that much like other things on the console version, the controls are hot garbage for aiming. I think I also heard that they can be tweaked in the options to be better though?

Beyond that though, I *do* think the combat continues to get better as you unlock perks for V.

Nah I'm on PC.

I don't literally mean as bad as ME1, just that it parallels to the same situation. Where its just a sub par experience compared to what else is out there. I guess its not really fair to compare it to like an Arena shooter or something. It would probably be best to compare it to something like Fallout maybe? Destiny to me has some of the best gun play in a video game period and Cyberpunk isn't even the same ballpark. Even like the running animation has this just weird jank off-step to it.

I'm just waiting for something to hook me. I hated Witcher 3 until I got to the bloody baron quest line (even though its only like an hour in), but I still wasn't huge on the combat after that. The story carried me into wanting to play more. 2077 just doesn't have anything yet, I keep chugging through in 30-1h sessions and just can't get into the groove.

The gunplay has already gotten better for me - I think they start you as a scrub that can barely handle basic weapons but as I've leveled up not only the kinds of guns open up but also the ability to upgrade them in ways that make combat a lot better (I'm 8 hours in). I didn't like it at first either but it continues to get better (though I'm primarily a stealth hacker, I've had to fight plenty already).

I see. Might take time then? I mean, it's definitely not Doom Eternal levels and probably not as good Destiny on the fundamentals (although I do think the combat as a whole is more interesting than Destiny's combat on the whole), but I've been enjoying the combat a lot. Incidentally I mostly use mantis blades which when coupled with double jump and perks to speed you up so so much damn fun. But I also found myself really enjoying the Overwatch iconic sniper rifle on the opposite extreme and some of the revolvers :p

FWIW, the game absolutely takes a some time past the intro where the quests really open up and are really good.

How far are you? I think most of act 1 isn't super compelling narratively, but once you get into the meat of the game with Keanu Reeves things get a lot more interesting. That said, while I've liked a lot of what's going on in the story, I haven't had a "bloody baron" moment yet.

Also the gunplay is great relative to the genre.

Its good to hear that it opens up a bit. I'm really not far at all, I don't even know what the last "main" quest I did was. I just kind of pick up different quests as I go and roll with it.

I was a bit curious to those saying the Gunplay is bad.  I think we need to remember, its an RPG first, Shooter 2nd.  Comparing it to other RPGs, I think the gunplay is head and shoulders better than whats out there.  A game like Fallout's gunplay is so mediocre compared to what's here.  A game like Destiny is a shooter first, with very very light RPG mechanics.  You don't improve your recoil and spread in Destiny through using weapons like you do in Cyberpunk.

That being said, the AI is as bad as just about any other RPG out there, where you can cheese it extremely easily.  Using the Hacking you can basically kill an entire base by shocking them, and no one will ever raise an alarm, and never find your position.  I am like 40 hours in, Lvl 23 I think, so I am hoping the late game encounters have a lot more Netrunners that at least try to find your position and do other things to flesh out the combat scenarios.

The Sniping is extremely satisfying though, really fun to blow peoples heads off.

I think there's a specific moment at the 7-10 hour mark that would change most people's minds about the gunplay.

If you're referring to the moment I think you are, I just did it and I agree.

Spoiler

When you first play Johnny Silverhand's flashback of sieging Arasaka Tower?

Once Keanu Reeves shows up, this game really does get much more interesting. I'm 10 hours in.

Gun plah is not fun? We’re playing totally different games. I’ve reloaded big battles just because they were so fun.

my son is home for the holidays, he’s playing on my ps5 (doesn’t know he got one for xmas). It doesn’t look terrible, but it’s certainly not the PC version. It crashes pretty often on consoles though. He’s getting abbout one every 90 minutes, spo there’s a memory leak somewhere.

You do understand that everyone has different feelings about what is fun right?

Sure, but nobody can say the shooting mechanics in this game is bad. It just isn’t.

if you’re playing on consoles, then definitely, the framerates would make it suck. But on PC, frankly, the shooting is some of the best non-twitch shooting out there.

I just fired up Jedi Fallen Order on Xbox and was surprised to see that it had an option for Motion Blur, Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration and before even playing the game I turned them off because it's always awful. :p

GEE ZUZ, the base Xbox gets crushed on a different level. Grainy, blurry, sub-720p at times, freezing for nearly a minute, teens FPS, holy shit.

Pro/One X seem to be decent if you want to play it (in terms of performance it looks like it's Pro >> XBOX >>>>>>>>>>>>>> PS4>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>XBO), and PS5/XSX gives much a much better performance as you'd expect, but I decided to wait until it comes to current gen.

I said it was sub-par. Which was probably still the wrong word to use. The game, at least early on, does nothing to stand out from the hordes of FPS games that are out there.

While perhaps not in the same genre there are a good chunk of games that take the FPS genre to interesting heights, this game isn’t one of them.
