That's more or less correct.

Then I that will be a pass from me. I don't really like that kind of combat. It is like small scale RTS combat almost. Starcraft-ish

So, with pro you don't pay for new games, but with basic you do? Or do you have to pay for the games even with pro? That said, I have ZERO interest in streaming games.

Sounds like the leaks were correct.  You get access to a game library with Pro (presumably mostly older games).  You can also buy games outright, except this shit applies:

What is the quality Stadia will stream content at?
Stadia will be able to stream games up to 4K HDR and 60 FPS quality for Stadia Pro subscribers. Non-subscribers can stream games up to 1080p and 30 FPS. Like any other Internet streaming experience, higher quality connections will result in the best experience.

I'd say this is even worse than gating people out of online play, as console manufacturers do.

Oh, it looks like Google's FAQ and Stadia Store pages disagree with each other too.  Right now, the latter says the 'free' version is up to 60fps, the FAQ says 30fps.  That's one hell of a fuck up.

"Players will have to pay $129.99 up front and $9.99 a month, on top of individual game purchase cost"

So, a streaming-only Steam that will completely decimate most data caps, has me paying a large up-front cost, monthly fee to access my games, and this is all backed by Google's checkered history on long-term support of their services? Hard pass.

It sounds like the free "library" is similar to Xbox Free Games with Gold, rather than an extensive library of free games like GamePass.  (Only free game to begin appears to be  Destiny 2).

Additional free games released regularly: Yes, starting with Destiny 2: The Collection

I just did the speedtest on  Stadia.com, and it is telling me that I am only getting 12.5 Mbps -- ran a speedtest and confirmed my internet is giving me 51Mbps to a nearby server.

The success or failure of Stadia will ultimately rest on the tech, but it's interesting that they're basically treating it as a console, and not trying to reinvent a whole new business model. I expected a (perhaps optional) "all you can eat" type bundle, but I imagine that would be pretty expensive.

I suppose this makes the most sense, and I expect Sony and MS to follow along with their streaming services.

It sounds very consumer unfriendly in terms of game ownership, and didn't answer enough questions about the subscription library.  I think they left the door wide open to competitors, purely on that.

Microsoft probably had a good chuckle today.  I'm expecting some caveats there too, but nothing as extreme.

My connection is 960 Mbps but Stadia.com says its 225. Fine for me, likely bad for most. Additionally, I was in their Beta (or was I?!) and it was not a smooth experience! Textures were mud like half the time!

It doesn't sound anymore consumer unfriendly than existing game and video services. When I stream movies from Amazon, I can watch a shifting selection of movies that are included in the subscription (as long as I'm subscribed), or I can buy a film that is available to me on whatever devices Amazon sees fit to support, as long as they support their service. The same holds true for digital Xbox and Playstation games.

Can you only watch the 4k movies you buy on Amazon in 1080p if you aren't subscribed?
Does Netflix only have one exclusive show?

And where is Stadia's "shifting selection" of games?  We only had Destiny 2 confirmed.  All of this makes them look like a joke.  They weren't prepared to enter this industry yet.  Microsoft doesn't even have to better their tech to better their service.

There does not appear to be any "shifting selection" of free games with Stadia.

Netflix does paywall 4K content behind higher levels of subscriptions, and 4K costs more in physical media as well. Most streaming services don't even offer 4K streams, so I can't imagine it's a huge deal for most people. 1080p was good enough for Game of Thrones, I don't think 4K requiring a subscription is going to be the deciding factor for people playing Farming Simulator on their phones.

When Netflix launched, they had zero exclusive shows. Same with Amazon video. Stadia is launching with two we know of thus far.

According to The Verge, here is the known list of games available, with more announcements following at E3:

Complete List of games:

Bandai Namco - Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

Bethesda - DOOM Eternal, DOOM 2016, Rage 2, The Elder Scrolls Online, Wolfenstein: Youngblood

Bungie - Destiny 2

Capcom - TBD

Coatsink - Get Packed (Stadia exclusive)

Codemasters - GRID

Deep Silver - Metro Exodus

Drool - Thumper

Electronic Arts - TBD

Giants Software - Farming Simulator 19

Larian Studios - Baldur’s Gate 3

nWay Games - Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid

Rockstar Games - TBD

Sega - Football Manager

SNK - Samurai Shodown

Square Enix - Final Fantasy XV, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider

2K Games - NBA 2K, Borderlands 3

Tequila Works - Gylt (Stadia exclusive)

Warner Bros. - Mortal Kombat 11

THQ - Darksiders Genesis

Ubisoft - Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Just Dance, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, Trials Rising, The Crew 2

I imagine we'll see the selection of Stadia Pro titles at E3.

So there will be some kind of selection, but we don't have a real indication as to what it will entail quite yet, other than Destiny 2.

I already quoted that same line several posts above.

Phil suggested that games would be "added to your library"  suggesting it will be similar to the free games on the Epic store, Xbox Gold or PS plus, where there is "a" free game" (or 2) to add to your library.  Rather than a "shifting selection" ala GamePass or Amazon Prime.

The Verge confirms that "like any other free-with-Stadia Pro title, it’s only available so long as you keep paying that $10 monthly."

I preordered it. I want to believe it's going to be great, and stream 4k hdr right into my TV, and then I could leave the house and pick up where I left off on my work computer, tablet, etc. I doubt it will do all that reliably in reality, but I'm sure it will have its moments. I was going to buy a 4k chromecast anyways, I use my chromecast every day. So what's a few more bucks to try this out. I'm really excited for November.

You missed the point if the Amazon analogy.  There is no 4K subscription paywall on content you directly bought.  On Stadia there is.  That’s the kicker.  Bringing up Netflix’s subscription doesn’t even relate.

On exclusives, it matters more here for one reason: Microsoft.  Netflix had no competition when they started making shows.  Google has to convince people to get this over xCloud and Games Pass.

And of course we know the starting lineup games you will be able to buy on Stadia.  We just don’t know the Pro library.  That’s a huge problem.  Why even buy the founder pack if you aren’t interested in Destiny 2?  .... they hardly even gave us a clue.

Do they charge you right away or do they wait until it ships to charge you?
