General Gaming Death Stranding OT - Special Delivery

I always use the bola gun. Next time I’ll try the grenades. I haven’t used any of the smoke or decoy packages either. Have you tried those?

The packages are great. You unlock others if you help the preppers as well.

If you get pinged, drop one where your cargo hologram appears, go hide and watch the idiots open it.

After that you can take them out in all the confusion and more.

God, I have spent a lot of time playing and am still at Episode 2. Just been doing lots of delivery and building right now, and I hear it really opens up more at 4. I should probably get on that. :p

You can always move forward and backtrack to previous areas with new tools and gadgets. I went back to the opening areas and went wild building it up.

I should probably just go to West Knox now, then. I have a feeling it becomes easier and easier to travel, right? Just using the reverse trike was a fun change.

I heard that's one of the longest. What say you?

Pretty sure I’m on 5 now, and that 4 is short.

Early on in 3 you get... stuff that’s very useful. I don’t wanna say it makes lingering in earlier Episodes a waste of time... but it does make time spent there inefficient.

YO, thanks for telling me that. I've been trekking around on the bike lmao

The terrain in 3 and beyond is diverse enough to make the bike less consistently useful until you network more things and have access to roads. You’ll get kit that REALLY helps on foot pretty early though.

The game consistently introduces new tools, toys and mechanics in general so in that respect, Chapter 2 is almost like the introductory tutorial and shit gets real in Ch. 3 with tons of new mechanics etc. introduced. You can also backtrack to previous areas with your new-found gadgets and take care of business so don't be afraid of moving on.

Ch. 3 is fucking awesome and really drives home the point that the areas are essentially enormous levels more so than typical open world design.

Edit: Also, not gonna lie, I thought the Conan cameo was endearing and fun contrary to my original brutal eye-roll. Overall, the Monster placement and actors and all really don't register for me while playing even though I thought it was lame as hell on paper.

All the shit you get in Chapter 3 is so fucking rewarding.

All of a sudden I have

Spoiler

MULE vehicles I can hijack, reverse trikes I can create, and roads I can build to keep my batteries fresh and my vehicles from going through crappy terrain. Fuck, man. How the hell did traveling become so fun?

And the multiplayer has this great sense of community. You can see some of the Souls influences with messages and words of encouragement along the way, but you can also see outlines where someone is resting and communicate with them, you're notified when people are using your roads, like, shit.

Also am enjoying the influences to the world, seeing the roads built or the other porters coming back if MULES aren't present. Getting the unlocks on the Chiral Network and seeing other people's shit is honestly underappreciated from me, but it's a great reward and, again, a great sense of community to link another part of the country to the network and thus unlock help from other players.

I'm in Ch. 8 right now with a shocking number of hours played, something I rarely do, and I think this game overall is extremely memorable and engaging as fuck. All the systems are relatively simple but the way it all works together ultimately is very fun and always cool to mess around with. That's another thing that reminds me of MGSV in terms of its design philosophy. You may never use some of its available tools, others may only use those, but everything serves its purpose and works if you decide you think it's cool.

I was away for a few days recently and decided to check some YouTube videos on how others deal with MULE camp raiding because I was bored and there was always some funny new shit I hadn't even thought of.

Overall, I'm very surprised by, and into, the overall whimsical and positive core this game has going on. Some dark and bad things obviously happen but overall it has a really unique atmosphere and world in video games, it feels really fresh to me. I'm glad I ended up giving this a chance via rental, this turned out to be so different from what I expected...which was basically a laughing stock. While I haven't beaten it yet, what I've played so far in terms of hours is substantial and it's definitely in my highlights of this generation.

When I saw a rest center that had one a hologram of one of those Horizon Zero Dawn walkers by it, I lost my shit.

And well...turns out you can go full TPS on terrorist camps as well with the non-lethal assault rifle. I planned out a big hit on the terrorist camp in the woods between the Waystation and Distribution centers near Mountain Knot and shit went south halfway through my very creative stealth sequence and I ended up, much to my surprise again, shooting my way out of there with the non-lethal guns I brought and reverting back to stealth tactics after faking out the last two guys. They got hit with a stun bomb.

I mean you can even sprint-slide behind cover and headshot dudes for a dramatic little slow-mo with a package flying in the air.

See, now this is sounding like MGSV.

I was in Best Buy earlier tonight and this game was completely sold out so... I guess that's why there haven't been any sales yet.

Same thing when I tried to buy it at Game Stop some weeks back, I guess the week it came out. I had to go to two other places to get a copy.

Edit: Interestingly enough, several guys I train with have been talking about playing, and liking, it. I'm really surprised because the only other games I've ever heard them mention were really big online titles. Didn't expect to hear a DS conversation at the gym.

My bro just got a PS4 and he's been DYING to play Horizon, which he's enjoying right now. So I decided to send him some pics of Death Stranding since there are references to Horizon and Horizon holograms. fyi, he's kind of a smartass.

For the two, or one, others even playing, new patch hit today and there's a really important addition here:

Ability to change font size!

Font is fucking tiny and hard to read int his game, lord.

I'm conquering that whole mountain chain bit by bit and it's been a fantastic experience. Setting up a huge zip-line network and fucking up BT bosses.

Also shut down all the terrorist camps in the area for more material raids earlier.

That is awesome - the right way to do it too. I haven't had a chance to play for awhile, hoping to kick start it back up tomorrow.

wtf, zip lines come later in the game?

FFFUUUUUUUUUUUU

I gotta get further. I did a little Diablo III playing and now I need to get back and expand my network, probably need to get out of Chapter 3.

If you're not at that part yet, you're missing out if you enjoyed the game thus far. It keeps opening up and you basically end up thoroughly invested in every area of the map, at least I am the way I'm playing it.

I'm at 76 hours right now and only at the end of Chapter 6...I can't fucking put this game down and when I'm not playing I keep thinking of ways to approach areas. Probably the most addicted I've been to a game since MGSV ironically.

I agree. It’s one of the most unique games I’ve ever played and it is so enjoyable too. It’s a shame that some gamers will miss out on it because they don’t get it.

I'll go back to it at some point.
