Trump set to send $16 billion to bailout farmers hurt by Trump trade war with China

Recommended Posts

The federal government will spend an additional $16 billion to help farmers hurt by the US-China trade war, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced Thursday.

Quote

Perdue said that the farmer aid will be paid for by an equivalent amount the US expects to pull in through tariffs. But Perdue also claimed that "China's gonna pay for these" -- a false assertion made repeatedly by Trump.

The tariffs will instead be paid for by companies importing goods into the US and are often passed on to US consumers in the form of price hikes, a reality acknowledged by Trump's own top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow.

Trump last year already promised farmers a $12 billion aid package to help mitigate the first wave of Chinese retaliatory measures after Trump slapped tariffs on Chinese imports.

This has layers, man.

The other thing about these subsidies, is that they just can't go on forever, but much of that market will be gone for a long time, if not indefinitely. After a full year of finding other sources for these products, ending the trade war isn't suddenly going to fix everything.

They just have to last through the Trump administration

"We advise the U.S. side not to underestimate the Chinese side's ability to safeguard its development rights and interests. Don't say we didn't warn you!" the People's Daily said in a commentary titled "United States, don't underestimate China's ability to strike back." The paper is the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China.

The phrase "Don't say we didn't warn you" was only used two other times by the People's Daily in history — in 1963 ahead of China's border war with India and in 1987 right before China went to war with Vietnam.

"Will rare earths become a counter weapon for China to hit back against the pressure the United States has put on for no reason at all? The answer is no mystery," the paper said.

Notable anticommunists like Grassley and Ernst were on the receiving ends of those checks.

“Thanks to the government paying nearly 40% of their income, U.S. farmers are expected to end 2020 with higher profit than 2019 and the best net income in seven years, the Department of Agriculture said in its latest farm income forecast.”

Any time some GOP fucknut starts screaming SOCIALISM! they should have their face caved in with a fucking hammer.

Remember when the tea party was a thing? What happened to all of those people? It's almost like they don't actually believe in a single fucking thing they pretend to.

Politics is literally nothing but tribalism at this point.

The tea party morphed/evolved into Trump voters and QAnon. The internet just made them worse and crazier.
