SaysWho? Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 The federal government will spend an additional $16 billion to help farmers hurt by the US-China trade war, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced Thursday. Quote Perdue said that the farmer aid will be paid for by an equivalent amount the US expects to pull in through tariffs. But Perdue also claimed that "China's gonna pay for these" -- a false assertion made repeatedly by Trump. The tariffs will instead be paid for by companies importing goods into the US and are often passed on to US consumers in the form of price hikes, a reality acknowledged by Trump's own top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow. Trump last year already promised farmers a $12 billion aid package to help mitigate the first wave of Chinese retaliatory measures after Trump slapped tariffs on Chinese imports. This has layers, man. 2 Quote
PaladinSolo Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Redistribution of wealth is now official GOP policy, also one of the sticking points with China was demanding they limit subsidies to their own companies. Quote
SuperSpreader Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 How can they do that? Doesn't Congress set the budget?? Quote
TwinIon Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 They suddenly don't seem concerned about where the money will come from. Quote

Rodimus Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 I'm already ready to read news about people not farmers figuring out how to get at the money for farmers. Quote
TwinIon Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 The other thing about these subsidies, is that they just can't go on forever, but much of that market will be gone for a long time, if not indefinitely. After a full year of finding other sources for these products, ending the trade war isn't suddenly going to fix everything. Quote
Spawn_of_Apathy Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 So...farmers aren’t doing fine and happy? Quote

Don't say we didn't warn you!" the People's Daily said in a commentary titled "United States, don't underestimate China's ability to strike back." The paper is the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China. The phrase "Don't say we didn't warn you" was only used two other times by the People's Daily in history — in 1963 ahead of China's border war with India and in 1987 right before China went to war with Vietnam. "Will rare earths become a counter weapon for China to hit back against the pressure the United States has put on for no reason at all? The answer is no mystery," the paper said. Quote

ort Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 Any time some GOP fucknut starts screaming SOCIALISM! they should have their face caved in with a fucking hammer. Remember when the tea party was a thing? What happened to all of those people? It's almost like they don't actually believe in a single fucking thing they pretend to.
