I've been on my annual massive Aphex Twin binge and was wondering if there are any other fans on here?

What are your favorite, most memorable, whatever tracks by Mr. RDJ? His catalog is so fucking vast, I always find new tracks so I'm curious.

I was a pretty big fan, I don't listen to him as much anymore. Drukqs is probably my favorite album, 54 Cymru Beats is my jam.

I also like AFX which is also him.

I actually never really listened to that one somehow. My favorites are Selected Ambient Works Vol. II and ...I Care Because You Do.

I recently discovered all those "leaked" Soundcloud (or whatever service it was) tracks people have made various compilations of. Some of that stuff is really fantastic. I was just listening to Richard D. James Album and felt compelled to make this thread after enjoying the fuck out of Fingerbib several times in a row.

I woulda pegged you as a Milk Man kinda guy

No pegging.

Also I haven't listened enough to know what that means!! My other bands are The Armed, Behemoth, Dillinger Esc Plan, Car Bomb, really enjoying Judiciary. I will listen to more Aphex Twin today! It will be a priority.

Well expect Aphex Twin to sound nothing like those bands!

I only like the one where that weird thing screams

Ironically that song was apparently made as a parody of Heavy Metal, as a joke essentially, and became his most well-known song.

Basically everything else he's done in his absurdly vast catalog and musical variations is nothing like that song.

Edit: Assuming we're talking about Come To Daddy

We are, I'm listening to other songs and none if it is like that. :(

He's done anything from very stripped-down and tranquil Ambient to borderline pure noise but definitely nothing like Come To Daddy funny enough.

I've heard Aphex Twin dropped around some discussions of The Flashbulb. Every time he pops up I try to find a song of his I like, but just never get into it.

Maybe I'm just looking up the wrong songs.

Can someone recommend me an album to start with?

For that I usually play rain or ocean sounds on Spotify

Richard D. James Album is probably the easiest to get into.

Or Windowlicker for that music video

No one warned us! Who could have known!?

TBH that was kinda the song that got me into Aphex Twin, or at least drew my attention. When I listened to his other stuff I discovered that Come to Daddy is basically the only song of his that sounds like that.

But I got heavy into IDM, Boards of Canada, Squarepusher, etc so yeah I didn't really mind.

I found when I was younger I was mostly disappointed in albums because I had expectations of what I was going to hear and when the album was not what I expected I generally was turned off of it.

These days I don't really have any expectations of what I'll hear, so when a band totally changes up their sound from album to album I generally enjoy it on it's own merit rather than comparing it to other albums and getting mad it doesn't sound like Album I like part 2. That being said there are exceptions. :p

I would recommend this to start with as it covers a lot of...bases...of his sound. Some heavily Ambient-veering tracks mixed with great percussion. Besides, the opening track is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Or maybe this as it's also kind of a perfect cross section while his later albums are a bit too "glitchy" for me personally. This is my personal favorite:

I love Boards Of Canada and (older particularly) Autechre.

Honestly, I got into this kind of stuff in my "drug experimentation" days. A great friend of mine who is a painter and tattoo artist used to drop acid and paint for like 10 hours to all this kinds of stuff and I thought it was fascinating. One of our go-to albums was this compilation Artificial Intelligence:

@Bloodporne Have you heard the new Fennesz album? It's really good!

Never heard of that actually, what should I check out?

No love for Blue Calx?

This is yet another favorite of all time tracks and probably my favorite Aphex track actually. Just brilliant, he has a knack for making these really beautiful yet eerie pieces.
