Iran Conflict Thread - pls no - update: short-range missiles launched from Iran at US air base in Iraq

Recommended Posts

It seems like Iran made the closest thing to a good faith mistake you can make in a hot zone. Strange how the tables have turned.

The fact that there was a hot zone at all is not something I'd look at Iran to take the blame over, though. It's good that cooler heads seem to ultimately prevailed but there would be no conflict without trump's actions and the conflict that arose from those actions was entirely foreseeable. A smaller scale version of these events is how people get locked up for felony murder.

A senior White House official said it was “super uncool” and “quite unwise” for Gaetz to push for limits on the president’s authority. This person added that White House officials would not be returning Gaetz’s phone calls, text messages, “smoke signals or his kneelings in the snow.”

It isn’t, but that’s not relevant to my reply so feel free to presume for the balance of this reply that we agree it is a war crime. People aren’t saying it’s reckless because it’s a “war crime”, they were saying it was reckless because it would draw us further into conflict with Iran. Except that it more likely decreases the proxy attacks by Iran against the US. Iran has no desire to get into a full on conflict with the US, but they were happy to continue their proxy campaign against the US because our response had been so tame. Now things have changed.

No people are saying it was reckless because it was an escalation and was done with little consideration for the potential consequences of the action. This administration rarely thinks things through and this is case is no different.

You said what I said, “draw us further into conflict with Iran” is the same thing as “escalation” :p . And the people who thought that were wrong on the consequences. The US got rid of the person causing the most trouble for US forces in the region and the Iranian government responded by telling America via Switzerland that they were going to shoot some missiles with hours of advance warning to hunker down.

The idea that the administration as a collective unit didn’t make any consideration for the consequences is false. They were arranging other attacks at the same time to further cripple Iran’s ability to fund and use proxies to carry out their dirty work. Trump himself being a dummy who doesn’t think about the down range effects is separate from the administration as a whole.

I feel like every Fox News interview he does, the interviewer gives him an escape ladder to get out of some idiotic/illegal thing he just said, and he's too much of a moron to take it.

Even by his standards, he was rapid-fire repeating himself a LOT. It's like he doesn't know where he is or why he's there.

The U.S. effort to coerce European foreign policy through tariffs, a move one European official equated to “extortion,” represents a new level of hardball tactics with the United States’ oldest allies, underscoring the extraordinary tumult in the transatlantic relationship.

Quote

It remains unclear if the threat was even necessary, as Europeans had been signaling their intention to trigger the dispute resolution for weeks. While the United States views the mechanism as critical to reimposing sanctions on Iran in as little as 65 days, the Europeans see the measure as a last chance to salvage a deal they view as vital to reducing tensions and limiting Iran’s nuclear program.

A few people had concussion symptoms in the days after, so they were taken to facilities capable of properly evaluating/treating.

Sounds like Trump wants to engage in some regime change.

He just wants to look tough, he really doesn't have the guts, thankfully, to try to really do regime change in Iran

He doesn't have the guts but he also doesn't have the sense not to. Cowards with something to prove are always the most dangerous in these situations and Trump is a tremendous bullshit artists who doesn't give a shit about the lives on either side of an armed conflict.
