He really wasn't, on election day more people voted for Hillary Clinton, he was elected and is the President. But his election doesn't represent the will of the majority of the people who voted. The leader of your country was elected by a safe margin as an MP, and was then appointed as Prime Minister when greater than 50% of the other MPs (representing more than 50% of the vote) voted to support him forming a government.
