Commissar SFLUFAN
In a dozen interviews conducted by Polygon over a period of several months, current and former employees say they regularly worked in excess of 70-hour weeks, with some reporting 100-hour weeks. Contract staff in Epic’s quality assurance and customer service departments spoke of a stressful and hostile working environment in which working overtime — while officially voluntary — was an expected service to the company. Mr.Vic20
And it will keep happening. No one industry or group is immune to the inevitable pressures of the current market. Things have become so fast due to immediate expectations that to manage any project without sacrifice is to sacrifice the project itself. Its sucks, its tough, and its absolutely the norm. When my projects go from design to bid, all Hell breaks loose from then on to the finish line. It means 12-14 hour days often 6 and sometimes 7 days a week. We can't have instant convenience, high levels of communication and reporting, and good work environments. We have to pick what we want. Someone will come along to tell me this isn't so and I will ask, how many multi million dollar projects have you managed? I don't like it, in fact I hate it, but I have intimate knowledge of why and how this happens and why it will keep happening no matter how many special interest pieces are written on the subject. IF we want good working conditions for these developers then we need to pay in patience and more money.

I think this is on the money and also will never happen. I don’t like to buy in to generalizations, but game fans seem to live up to their entitled reputations more often than not. I think the only practical solution is unions.
