Commissar SFLUFAN
This is absolutely infuriating.
Zaku3
Quote The new measures, outlined by Bolton in a Miami speech, follow an announcement by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that the administration will lift restraints that have prevented lawsuits from U.S. citizens seeking compensation for property expropriated by the Cuban revolutionary government that seized power there six decades ago. Good luck with that.

ByWatterson
This seems like a move with literally no upside, diplomatic or political. But hey, John Bolton isn't crazy, right?

SaysWho?
The lifting of restrictions traveling to Cuba was one of the coolest and most unexpected things during the last presidency. These moves are backwards and stupid.
b_m_b_m_b_m
Any country that enters into an agreement with us needs to be extremely cautious. There's no bipartisan consensus on what exactly is our policy towards virtually any country, so you run the risk of an extremely different policy every four years. And Congressional buy in or approval doesn't help either, see the Iran nuclear deal.

We aren't any better but we should be trying.

For sure (that we are so important as a country/empire on the global stage that we have the greatest of responsibilities here). But I'm not sure I'd say we have had 60 years of relatively stable policy towards other countries. We have toward certain other countries (Europe, Japan/South Korea, Canada, Mexico kind of), but we certainly have had many disingenuous policies towards other countries (Central and South America, Africa, Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia). But I understand your point that we are now creating unstable policies with the former as we have been doing with the latter for decades. b_m_b_m_b_m
Nah, we've been consistently undermining leftist/popularly supported governments across the world, especially in the third world. That's actually where we're most stable!

Right, but the instability comes from how outwardly we appear to not do that, which tricks the populations of those countries into believing our lies which we then undermine, which is instability. You'd be surprised, based on my anecdotal interactions - at least referring to previous decades (not anymore) that @b_m_b_m_b_m was referring to. That's definitely changed now, I agree. Surely Trump's base has taught you that people the world over are pretty close to being legally and medically considered mentally handicapped/challenged and are prone to being more gullible than not towards institutions of power. Your optimistic take is surprising.
