RedSoxFan9
there's a reason many programmers never share their code online it reminds me of guitar forums where half of the comments are people saying they can play the solo faster and better

But it is worth noting that there is more to a project like this than just the code contributed.

Maybe you misunderstood me, I was posting it to show how horrible people are, not to take credit away from her. As as aside, I work in tech and in my department we have two women out of eighteen. We are the tech shop for an organization that employs 1,100 people, and we do everything from tier 1 hardware support to creating custom apps for our organization (as well as managing AD, servers, cloud architecture, procurement of thousands of devices, etc). So we have a wide variety of positions. Of the two women, one is our front-end phone person, and the other is a tier 1 tech who used to be the front-end phone person. There is a definite lack of diversity and it feels like a boys' club most days. No one is doing this on purpose, but the culture of tech definitely pushes out women and makes a hostile environment, either consciously or subconsciously. Anathema-
Uh no shit a project lead does less grunt work, David Fincher ain't out there holding up boom mics or rigging cameras. I would expect her to write less code.

This is a legitimate criticism. The nonscientific world still thinks in terms of Einstein's and Newton's and not on the massive teams of people required for modern scientific discovery. Scanning through GitHub commits to "prove" she wasn't responsible for the discovery isn't legitimate.

legend
I also just want to point out how stupid their comparison is to Mr. 850,000 lines of code. Reading numbers like that from Github stats without an understanding of how the project works means very little. For example, you will find that the guy with 850,000 lines of code "committed" is the owner of the repository and if you do even a tiny glance at his commits, many that are credited to him are because he's merging code other people wrote into the repository he owns. Now, maybe he was more crucial to the project. I don't know. But that's just it: you can't know from a superficial analysis like this. Jumping to a conclusion because you looked at github lines of code committed without any understanding of the project organization is fucking stupid and also ignores contributions that may not be in lines of code. That they felt compelled to even do this "analysis" is what's of course the dumbest part of it all, but even the attempt was stupid.

chakoo
If anybody brought up lines of code as a measuring stick I would verbally back hand them on the spot. Such useless measures are the work of a shoty or jr dev. On the women in stem front, i’ve had the pleasure of working at two companies where gender diversity was in their dna and it lead to us having some amazing women devs. They’re pretty much on the top of my hiring list if I jump start a new company.
