Absolutely heart breaking.

Everyone involved in this crime should be locked up for a long, long time.

I've been saying it since it started happening, but as soon as we separated families at the border, it became a permanent stain worse than putting Japanese-Americans into internment camps during WWII. America should never be able to live this down, and that's presuming we actually fix the problem once we get a new president.

I get an inner sense that we're not going to fix it because we're approaching a sense that most of our leaders are becoming unfeeling cogs that really don't care, unless it furthers a personal, political agenda.

We've moved so far away from the original belief that Americans were the sort of people who would sacrifice themselves to make sure people weren't suffering anywhere. Now, we're no different than any other awful country out there that is only out for its own posterity. So, when people start to make the whole "but Americans are good people" sort of rhetoric, I shake my head and long for a day when America Was Great, not the imaginative era of Make America Great Again, which means taking America to a place that looks a lot like 1933 Europe.

I agree, but with the right (progressive) leader (like Warren or Sanders) I hope that there'd be a paradigm shift, which I truly believe would at least begin to happen.

This was never the case, and this belief comes from a complete whitewash of our own history, let alone how we approached the world around us.

At the rate we're going, we're going to get Biden or Harris, both of whom would do absolutely nothing different than has been the status quo (before Trump), but not really enough to make any serious difference. Warren or Sanders could possibly shake a lot of things up, but Americans aren't smart enough to elect actual progressives and are scared of socialist demons that don't really exist.

I said it was a belief, not a reality. But you see, believing you are a good person can often frame how you actually do things in your normal day. And that can't be all bad.

But the irony is those who most defend the "America is good" /shining city on a hill/last best chance for freedom/etc beliefs and fail to recognize the evils in our history are by my estimation more likely to support these abhorrent family separation (and other) policies. See the conservative backlash to the NYT 1619 project for my example.

Polling disagrees with you. It's clearly looking like a Warren-Sanders-Biden three-way primary race, with Harris and Buttigieg far behind at this point. That could change in the next few months, but we're only 14 months away from the general election now. We could get Biden, and that worries me, but having two progressives as the other two frontrunners in this race should give you hope and Biden's numbers continue to waver and in some polls continue to drop.

AND EVERYONE VOTE IN THIS DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY WHEN THE TIME COMES PLEASE

I'm predicting either Biden/Harris or Biden/Beto for the Dem side. I'm not saying I want any of those, but it's what I'm predicting. And I've only been wrong once. And that was just when I predicted Shania Twain wanted to go out with me. Ended up with Taylor Swift instead.

I’m sorry for your loss.
