Ehh. It's a game WITH mechs, but you spend most of it on foot as a regular ol' dude. Trenched is more of a mech game than Titanfall!

And if Titanfall's the best mech game we can muster -- a game where you spend like 20% of the game in a mech, then that's even more proof the mech genre needs a kick in the ass!

I liked titanfall when you weren't in a mech. Mechs are so fuckin clunky and your dude is parkour exTremeo man. Like,  would you rater play as a rock with feet or a dude who moves like water.  It is also like tanks. They are powerful, but tanks fucking suck to control. They are slow and boring, even in Halo which has the best tanks.

Oh, please, mechs are a huge part of the game, don’t try and say otherwise :p

You said you haven't read the books so by definition that is prejudice.

Nice try doe.

The show isn't my cup of tea at all, that means my lack of interest in based on reason and therefore it ain't prejudice according to the dictionary (which I had to google and keep a tab open for this sikk comeback).

But many book readers don't even like the show. You have no idea what you're talking about and PRE JUDGING the book based on your perception of the show.

Ah, very detailed and thorough point! You spend 80% of the game on foot, therefore mechs are a "huge" part of the game! I'd argue that they're basically Mario Kart power-ups, important but not the sole focus of the game.

Still not a mech game. A mech game is about being in a mech. Not about being out of a mech!

Some of the most fun you have is taking down a mech while being on foot, especially when you get to call down your own mech and it lands on-top of someone else's mech. You don’t have to be in a mech for it to be a mech game. Further more, TF2’s SP revolves around your characters growing relationship with the mech. Saying TF isn’t a mech game is possibly the most bizarre argument I’ve heard on these forums lately.

I think Xbob has now hurt his relationship with @legend thanks to these comments. :(

??? Yes you do? If I make a game where you don't pilot a mech, but but loads of mechs in it, it isn't a mech game. Like, if I made a dating-sim where all the girls were mechs, that doesn't make it a mech game.

Nope, it is, it’s just not a mech sim.

The mechs in TF are a major part of the game, period.

By the logic you’re using a zombie game would require you to play as a zombie, which means Stubbs is the only real zombie game :p

That would be a mech dating sim and would sell like crazy.

BTW, to actually be serious for a second, I'm pretty sure the ones saying that a game based around mechs literally falling from the sky and fighting them isn't a mech game because reasons are the ones being "deliberately obtuse" ;)

Game has tanks in it. You never enter a tank. So it isn't a tank game.

Is the game based around the tanks being in it, or is it a game where a tank occasionally appears? Is there an SP campaign that revolves around your growing relationship to and with a tank of which you can and do pilot?

But, yea, I'm being "deliberately obtuse"

As I said, if you don't pilot the mech, it isn't a mech game.

Way to ignore my questions. But, yea, you're saying I'm being "deliberately obtuse" olo.

Unless the mechs are a central and major point of the game and gameplay... and, you know, you can pilot them, like in TF (which you're arguing is not a mech game).

Cool, so RE2 isn't a zombie game then because you only fight zombies and aren't one. Got it. Good to know!.

No. It is a zombie game.

Clearly, it's not, though! How could it be? You're not playing as a zombie.

The only thing that is rustling my jimmies is your use of grammarly. And that is just difference between a zombie game and a mech game. The same rules don't apply to different types of games.

That's ridiculously dumb. Both Stubbs the Zombie and RE2 are zombie games, just different kinds of zombie games. Titanfall and MechWarrior are both mech games, just different kinds of mech games. Also, there can be sub-genres for things that don't fit a "classic" description.

The genre of "mech simulation" is the genre of games that attempts to simulate the piloting of mechs.  (Which is actually pretty silly to call it a "simulation", given you are simulating a fictitious thing).

So a "mech game" would be any game that has a significant focus on mechs -- it doesn't refer to a genre.  Just like a ninja games, pirate games, zombie games, alien games, etc. don't refer to genres, but rather the content/theme of the game...
