General Gaming Is Titanfall 2 worth $8 for the single player alone?

Recommended Posts

Titanfall 2 is on sale for $8 on PSN at the moment, and I've heard really great things about the campaign.  If you've played through it, do you think it's substantial enough to warrant purchasing the game at this price?  I don't have PS+ and generally don't play online so I would only play the campaign.  Thanks!

Absofuckinglutely.  Plus you have access to the amazing multiplayer if you ever want to give it a whirl (I say this as someone who also usually never plays online multiplayer).

I wasn't blown away.  It's a very good one of those, with a few surprising novelties and an amazing control scheme.   I think I just like my shooters better when they aren't so linear.

The Titans are fun, but you also aren't in them enough to really acclimate to what is most effective.  At least not on normal difficulty.  Only the 2nd to last boss gave me some trouble.

Easily Top 5 FPS single player campaign

Should games like Bioshock and the Metroid Prime titles count in this?  Honest question.

Only being honest.  It checks all the boxes, and its sad it didn't sell better considering how much it gets right.  I do like the variety, it really helps the pacing.

But if it's a Top 5 FPS in single player, I must not love the genre enough.

Those aren't FPS titles, though. Bioshock's an RPG that also has first-person shooting, and Metroid Prime isn't even close to an FPS because it relies on hard lock-on. Titanfall is all about the shooting, that's what makes an FPS title. Bioshock's shooting is clunky and bad, Metroid's is a means to an end.

Does that mean Crackdown 3 isn't a third person shooter? ;)

Titanfall 2's shooting does feel great.  As does the wall running, sliding, etc.  I do enjoy its strengths, and that it focuses on them.  But I'm probably not going to be thinking about my first time beating Titanfall 2 a few years from now.

I don't think of Crackdown 3 as a shooter at all. It's like a platforming sandbox to me, with some combat thrown in.

Crackdown 3 is a city climber / orb collection game where you can shoot a gun at people.

A better comparison would be to say, "Syphon Filter isn't a 3rd person shooter?"

I agree with this sentiment. It was very crisp and smooth and they had some cool mechanics in some of the levels but I was often left wanting more as it felt like just as I was starting to get used to some of the more unique mechanics the level ended and it was all jerked away. I feel like I wanted a lot of the levels to be 30% longer and require greater mastery of whatever was going on in the level.

I personally don’t, but wouldn’t argue if you wanted to add them.

Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Farcy 3, Farcry 4, Doom, Destiny, Destiny 2, Wolfenstein NO/OB, Wolfenstein 2 are all great FPS games with pretty good campaigns.

Not sure I would put Titanfall 2 above any of them...  Although it was a very good (but short) campaign...

Hit the nail on the head.  I would have taken a whole game that used the 'watch' mechanic.  And that survival kit was so cool, but they only let you use it in a few short corridors.

Taking down those smaller Titans as a pilot too.  There's that one level where it helps a ton to do it.  But the game never challenges you to do it again.

For that price point, I'll probably pick this up as well actually. Used to love FPS and hearing the single-player is actually solid is surprising.

Note that the first two or so levels are absolutely nothing new. The game takes a turn a little after that and the associated levels are, IMO, some truly amazing pieces of level design!

That's actually good advice seeing how aesthetically I don't find this game appealing at all. I'll give it a fair shot for sure.

Speaking of FPS, Witchfire looks kind of promising but don't think that's coming out till 2020.
