Money was free when it was for the rich, but now that the Democrats want it for the rest of the nation, it's time to tighten those belts!

In the next several months, the Trump administration faces several big spending and budget showdowns with Congress. And after mostly brushing off deficit concerns while pushing through a costly tax-cut plan, the White House now plans to reposition itself as an unlikely enforcer of fiscal responsibility led by its new top budget official, a veteran of the conservative group Heritage Action.

Taking less money from people is not spending. Spending is spending.

They spent more money, too. They also collected less.

But the point (regardless of spending or collection) is that they didn't care about the deficit, but now they will pretend to.

It isn’t just that they don’t care, they are cowards who will say what needs to be done but know cutting spending in a meaningful way will lose elections.

Yeah for sure. They will "pivot" to deficit-reduction, but the "pivot" will just be how they speak about the issue. They will attack the Democrats for wanting spending increases but will promise the exact same increases, and their base won't care about the hypocrisy. Definitely a sad state of affairs.
