Patch 1.05 for Horizon Zero Dawn on PC is now available to download on Steam!

This patch addresses additional crashes, as well as a couple of community-reported bugs such as Aloy’s hair not displaying correctly when playing with the game running above 30 FPS, controller rumble toggle and adds the option to display black side bars in cinematics when playing in ultrawide resolutions. We are continuing to investigate open issues and will update you when we have more news available.

Known Issues

  • Some players are experiencing an out of memory error during the game optimization process.
  • Some players are experiencing graphical settings issues, such as Anisotropic Filtering or HDR not working correctly.
  • Some players are experiencing performance issues on specific GPUs or hardware combinations.
  • We're aware of and continue to investigate issues that are not yet solved on both the player-compiled lists by u/EvilMonkeySlayer and u/Rampage572 – thank you!

Patch Notes

Crash Fixes

  • Fixed a crash in NetPresenceManager that some players experienced when entering the game or the benchmark from the main menu
  • Fixed a crash where the Steam SDK could crash on initialization when the game executable was started directly from installation folder rather than through Steam
  • Fixed a crash which would occur if the player pressed ‘Stop’ in Steam immediately after pressing ‘Play’
  • Fixed a startup crash when using Avast antivirus
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when VRAM was about to be oversubscribed

Graphical Improvements

  • Fixed an issue with Aloy’s hair not displaying correctly when the game is running above 30 FPS
  • Shader animations (e.g. hologram locks on doors, GAIA in cinematics, etc.) are no longer locked to 30 FPS, but running at unlocked framerate
  • Fixed an issue with flickering textures in main quest “A Gift from the Past”
  • Fixed an issue with flickering snow assets
  • Fixed an issue with flickering paintings in Song’s Edge
  • Fixed graphical corruption issues that only occurred on specific GPUs
  • Fixed an issue where the game would open in windowed mode instead of fullscreen when the player is using another window when booting the game
  • Fixed an issue where the game would not run in the correct resolution when switching from windowed to fullscreen
  • Added an option to turn off “blurry sidebars” in ultrawide resolutions and display black sidebars instead

Other Improvements

  • Allow players to still boot the game even if the version of windows used is detected to be too low to run the game at a stable condition
  • Added an option to turn off controller vibration/rumble
  • Fixed an issue in the storing of the ‘permission to track data’ attribute of the player profile (subsequently re-asking for said permission)
  • Fixed an issue where the opening cutscene music would not play if the player quits out and immediately begins a new game
  • Fixed an issue where inverting mouse controls also affected dialog tree choice input

I'm kinda impressed by the ongoing technical support this game is getting - most developers would've just said "good enough" a little while ago and moved on.

I hope this bodes well for their commitment to ensuring that future PC ports don't suffer from the same QA issues!

Still haven't fixed the anistropic filtering thing. How long could it take to fix?

It's been over a month since the last patch and this one didn't even fix any of the truly major issues aside from your character walking off-center which was admittedly a big issue and a wildly stupid one to exist and get past QA in the first place.

I'm glad they're still fixing it, but good lord they clearly are having a lot of trouble and should have never released.

Hi everyone!

We’re happy to announce that Patch 1.07 for Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition is now live! As we mentioned in our previous update, our team has been hard at work on some of the trickier graphical issues, which needed some more time in development.

With Patch 1.07 the team has rewritten the way the engine deals with shaders and shader-optimisation. This results in the optimisation step becoming optional, as well as the Anisotropic Filtering option now working as expected.

What this means for you: upon starting the game, it will start optimising shaders in the Main Menu each time. Shaders will also still be optimised during gameplay, but this now happens automatically in the background.
Letting the game run the initial shader optimization is completely optional, so if you want to jump straight in, you can skip it; letting this process finish before playing will improve your loading times in the game. Lastly, please note that changing AF settings can take some time depending on your PC hardware.

Patch Notes

Graphical Improvements

  • Anisotropic Filtering now works correctly
  • The mandatory/unskippable shader optimisation step at first launch has been removed
  • Shaders are now pre-optimised in the game’s Main Menu, but can be skipped
  • Shaders are also optimised dynamically in-game

idk that video is all 60fps besides one brief shot of 120fps grass and they are already scaling down on a 2080ti.

In my edit I said some people are getting 120

This guy's benchmark is running higher than the DF video with a 3090 for instance. Max of 144 but average 90 🤷‍♀️ - Maybe wait for a couple more patches

Yeah, need dlss or a really optimized game to hit high res/settings at 120. I was just kinda looking for an excuse to get this now rather than wait for the eventual ps5 patch/upgrade/whatever they do with it. Would definitely be locked 60, but honestly ps5 should be able to do that. Sure it will still look better here tho, for $25 considering it still since it’s on my list of want to go back to.

I'm pretty sure I have yet to see a last-gen game get upgraded that actually "locks" to 60. Most of them "usually hit" 60, which is kind of concerning. Every DF video I watch inevitably has a segment where the FPS tanks and they're like "but it's lots of alpha effects" as if that's an acceptable answer.

Some games do handle it better than others, though.

If it’s just a couple areas it’s whatever to me as long as the gameplay mostly locks there for the vast majority of the game.

And some stuff is struggling a bit to hit it but isn’t that more newly released cross gen games? I’m pretty sure Days Gone, Rachet, Horizon, the MS stuff, hits 60 pretty well.

We’re happy to announce we’ve just released Patch 1.11 for our PC players. Here’s what this patch contains:

Graphical Improvements

  • Added Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology.
  • Added AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution, replacing FidelityFX CAS.

UI Changes

  • Adjusted settings screen to facilitate the addition of DLSS and FSR.
  • Render Scale option has been removed but same result can now be accomplished by adjusting setting Upscale Method to Simple and adjusting Upscale Quality.

Performance Improvements

  • Improvement to the shader management system. This will result in a few noticeable differences:
  • There is no longer a shader pre-compilation step on startup. The game will always compile shaders during loading and in the background.
  • Stutters during gameplay that used to occur due to background shader compilation have now been significantly reduced.
  • Because shader compilation is still happening in the background you may notice the game having a higher CPU utilization while that is happening.
  • Loading screens will wait for the required shaders to be fully compiled. This may cause loading screens to take somewhat longer on certain systems.
  • On higher spec machines with faster CPUs the loading screens will typically be shorter, due to more efficient shader compilation that better leverages high-end CPUs.
