Terrible idea, looks bad, but I would put this on them not doing their research.  It’s not any real controversy, IMO.

Though I do wonder how they stumbled on 8chan in the first place.  Someone had that bright idea knowing full well what 8chan is.

Someone at 8chan reached out to them and they ran with it, according to them.

Eh looking at their responses, it seems like they knew exactly what they were doing.

Look at their quote...

When pressed further on if there was a reason why he kept the AMA going after the criticisms began pouring in, Brock replied, "Yes. I was fucking overwhelmed with a plethora of different emotions to be honest."

Yeah, I'm leaning toward the "they knew what they were doing" camp.

This letter is to offer my sincerest apologies and regret for THQ Nordic GmbH Vienna’s interaction with the controversial website 8chan last Tuesday, February 26. I condemn all unethical content this website stands for. Even if no one within the THQ Nordic Group would ever endorse such content, I realize simply appearing there gave an implicit impression that we did.

As Co-Founder and Group CEO of THQ Nordic AB, I take full responsibility for all of THQ Nordic GmbH‘s actions and communications. I have spent the past several days conducting an internal investigation into this matter. I assure you that every member of the organization has learned from this past week’s events. I take this matter very seriously and we will take appropriate action to make sure we have the right policies and systems in place to avoid similar mistakes in the future.

As a Swedish based, fast growing group, we firmly support equality and diversity. We are also working actively to combat discrimination, harassment, and misconduct. We are alreadyin the process of developing new work processes, based on the United Nations’ SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and using the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) standards, and we will accelerate this work going forward.

Lars Wingefors

Co-founder and Group-CEO, THQ Nordic AB

They still need to address the responses they provided and give an explanation imo. The responses (in the AMA) are in direct conflict with Lars’s claim that nobody at the company shares the views of 8chan.

That person needs to be fired. They don’t need to name the person.

I still don't know what exactly 4chan nor 8chan are. Where do the names come from and are they message boards or what?

Imagine a Venn diagram of hentai, misogyny, and incest/pedophilia...4chan exists in the space between the first two, and 8chan is right in the middle.

What I got from the article is that it's a free-for-all of anonymous shitposting in any direction. Sounds like a free therapist in theory.

Edit: I somehow must've skipped the rest of that list after being grossed out by hentai right off the bat...okay then. Good one THQ Nordic!

Let me put it this way, I didn't buy a cell phone of any kind until 2009.

Same, but 2010 or 2011. Can't recall. But I had internet and facebook. Every Highschooler knew about the Rickroll.

This was funny that they did an AMAM also to find out 8chan is filtered from Google. you have to type out the address to get to it. The crazy and sick are defiantly there.

Bing has no problem displaying it when searching for it:lol:  They must be using bing over there at THQ.
