I get that players should not be gambling on their own sport, but it's messed up that the league can take in millions (billions?) from it. I think sports are gonna eventually regret allowing in the Trojan Horse of gambling.

You can't gamble but check out this Caesar's Sportsbook commercial every commercial break!

The Commanders made a great move.  This Qb still has so much in the the tank and so much upside you-I-can't do this.

blah.........................................................who can do this?  Honestly?!

What is...

...why would you do this, Washington?!

He's probably better than Taylor Heinicke.  Given the amount of bad QBs who start in the NFL, I am not sure why Carson Wentz gets as much hate as he does.

Poor leader

not clutch

best days behind him

not worth a first

not worth a second

possible worth a third and fourth throw in

good chance I could just be spoiled at the position

I'm not mad about this deal.  Two 3rds and we pick up his contract.  He's better than Heinke.  Higher upside potential than Taylor for relatively low cost.  He's not the future, but he's a more competent placeholder.  He'll keep the seat warm while we draft/develop someone.  Best case scenario, he returns to pre-ACL form and surprises everyone.  Worst case scenario, he gives us yet another middle of the road playoff-less season, or gets injured again and we watch Heineke derp it up for a few more games.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So not the guy I'd pick by any stretch, but he's a low investment upgrade while we continue looking for our future.  And if shit goes sideways and he just really stinks up the joint, his contract isn't guaranteed past this year so we can walk away from him after the season with no cap hit.  It's a good trade from a business/roster standpoint.  It's not exciting, but I'm having a tough time seeing any significant downside to this move considering our current options.

Edit: Bonus for me - IF we win the first game against the Eagles this season, local sports talk radio is going to be hilarious.

Matt Ryan, Ben Roethlisberger, Trevor Lawrence, Taylor Heinicke, Jared Goff, Jalen Hurts, Teddy Bridgewater, Baker Mayfield, Davis Mills, Tua Tagovailoa, Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Andy Dalton, Jacoby Brisette, Jameis Winston, Trevor Siemian, Tyler Huntley, Taysom Hill, Tyrod Taylor.

All those dudes threw a bunch of passes in the NFL last year.  I would argue that Wentz probably did a better job than all of them.

How about something controversial?  He's probably better than any QB on an NFC South roster ATM.  [Although I admit I haven't paid much attention to the NFL offseason, so I may have missed something that happened..]

Yeah, I still don’t like him, still don’t trust him.  He is the starter in 2022, yes. No way would I say or guarantee he is the starter in 2023., but in. He reviewing the trade, for third rounders that were part of the deal..ok, maybe.

However, he still is in an iffy division so he has that.  Eagles better and the cowboys…well…the cowboys.

Dabol will make giants better but maybe not right away.

I'm not saying he is a stud.  I am just saying he is better than what half the NFL teams are able to trot out on any given Sunday.

Is he worth the cap hit?  Probably not, but I suspect he will agree to something lower going forward anyways.

This only makes sense to me if Washington picks up a QB this draft. Wentz is good enough to make sure you are not picking in the top 5 where the vast of QBs are picked.

Drafting QBs high is a crap shot -- odds are not great.

Top 5 QBs last year (DYAR)

Tom Brady -- Round 6 Pick 199

Aaron Rodgers -- Round 1 -- Pick 24

Dak Prescott -- Round 4, Pick 135

Patrick Mahomes - Round 1, Pick 10

Justin Herbert - Round 1, Pick 6

Those were the 5 best QBs last year in DVOA/DYAR.

QBs drafted with 1st 3 picks

2021 - Trevor Lawrence (1), Zach Wilson (2), Trey Wilson (3)

2020 -Joe Burrow (1), Tua Tagovailoa (5)

2019 - Kyler Murray (1)

2018 - Baker Mayfield (1), Sam Darnold (3)

2017 - Mitchell Trubisky (2)

2016 -Jared Goff (1), Carson Wentz (2)

Of that list, Joe Burrow looks like he will grow into being an elite QB.  (I could point out how great both Goff and Wentz's seasons were in 2017, and....)
