Because it's a treaty worth having due to the Russians not violating the rest of the treaty. It basically stops an arms race. If there are problems with the treaty (there are) then it is best to maintain it and work to update it and work through the problems. You can't update a treaty when one doesn't exist. Part of me thinks that the US is doing this to pivot to building weapons to counter what China (not a signatory to the INF) is building. But it would be better if we not ditch the whole thing, because the whole point of it is the safety of Europe. That's out the window now.
