Slug
tl;dw Game wasn't going the way they wanted. They're throwing out everything they've developed to this point and are starting again from scratch. They've brought Retro Studios on board. They're super sorry for the delay. crispy4000
Damn. I wanted it sooner, but can totally respect the decision. I don’t only want Retro on board, but Armature too. There’s some talent from the original team there. Both companies are in Austin. Regardless, it feels right for Retro to have their baby back. Nintendo at large has screwed the pooch with this franchise. The Prime series was Metroid at its best. (And I say that as someone who loved Super) I’m extremely curious about what the game looked like. They released that 3DS game no one wanted, but had to cancel this... Bloodporne
Fucking ouch. Metroid can't catch a damn break. How lame must this have been? Didn't Retro go through something similar with its original Prime development? Maybe not a total scrap but weren't there all kinds of issues and suddenly the game was fucking amazing out of the blue? ShreddieMercury
This is fascinating. I don't recall ever having seen such an honest video announcement from Nintendo; is there precedence for this?

Yeah, if you have to announce a delay that's the way to do it. The whole time I'm watching that video, instead of being upset about the delay I'm all, "Aww..it's OK buddy. We understand." Culturally speaking, the Japanese seem amazing at apologizing. :P

I can't remember the last time I saw a publisher this large be so forthright in an apology. I think Nintendo went out of their way this time because they had already announced the game way earlier than they normally would and they didn't want to head into another direct with this game being a no show. Duderino
I never quite understood why some thought the Metroid 4 announcemment was such a home run for Nintendo during their E3 direct. Sure, it gave fans something to get excited for, but compared to just about any other game shown at the press conferences and show floor, the MP4 logo was as low effort as it comes. To put it into perspective, we’ve seen more of the FF7 remake.
Brick
Sucks, but it's understandable, and as long as I get a good game I'll be happy. I'm glad that Retro is involved now.

Brian
Internal thinking was that it needs to be all under one roof to right the ship. Interestingly, Retro made the pitch for their involvement and put together a demo that Nintendo liked. — Imran Khan (@imranzomg) January 25, 2019 It's been long done.
