I think it's obvious that Venezuela needs help and needs change, but it also seems like a US military intervention is probably the worst way to achieve that.

It will be Brazilian/Colombian forces to actually invade with the US in a "supporting" role.

Probably just slightly less of one than the United States.

Trump may not have yet but yes preventing political opponents from voting has a long and well documented history in this country and it's still going on (and it's not even always in support of right wing racism).

Not the same as outright banning the Democratic Party from participating in the election.

How about when the winner of the popular vote doesn't get the office because the governing document of the nation itself is "undemocratic"?

Or when an ideologically-dominated Supreme Court decides to stop a recount?  Or when districts are gerrymandered to the point of becoming effectively "one party"?

There are dozens of ways that my statement is true short of not allowing the opposition to participate in an election.

So what?

If anything our ways are more insidious and nefarious than that.

Oh sorry it looked like he said they were similar to me, not the same. They are similar.

Also, why ban when you can discourage and dilute?

Every democracy features political parties that try to undermine each other at every turn.  Outright banning the opposition from participating in an election and creating a new assembly because the old one was won by the opposition are on a different level.
