The thing is, the UK has no credible alternative to Theresa May. Think about that for a second. She will likely be replaced by Boris Johnson who is even dumber than she is. Jeremy Corbyn rules Labour with an iron fist due to the fact that he was put in place by the Labour base, and they also want Brexit. So if he becomes PM the UK will be in the same place.

 

And after all of this... a plurality still oppose a second referendum, and want a "better" deal. The only ones to blame for this are the ignorant masses of the UK who want all of the benefits of the EU without paying any of the costs (or sharing the responsibilities). It's boomer entitlement taken to the extreme. Honestly I can't see any final outcome except a no-deal exit followed by a decade of instability and economic ruin, with the eventual rise of even more populist right-wing rulers who will blame those damned Europeans for all of this.

With an independent Scotland and Ulster re-united with the Irish Republic as potential side benefits!

Can someone ELI5 how UK gov works? I literally have no idea and the Brexit thing seems confusing as fuck. 

 

They voted on removing themselves from the EU,  and it passed. 

Now May is tasked with formulating a plan on how they are going to remove themselves and no one is buying into it? 

Since no one is buying into it, they may vote her out and another person will come in with a new plan to do it?

What if their plan doesnt pass? 

 

Isnt there a deadline on when they were supposed to separate?

BBC isn't streaming so I'm watching Sky, one point they made was the only way out No Deal without a deal (2nd Referendum, Article 50 Extension, etc) is a formal bill (as opposed to a motion) which there isn't enough time to do with only 40 days left in Parliament and Hard Brexit MPs could probably delay until after March 29th. No Deal is the only thing on the books that MPs approved when they triggered Article 50. They've fucked themselves.

I think March. They've been wasting all their time on this so far because no one thought they would win and there was no credible plan.

The Conservative Party and their Northern Irish coalition partners (the DUP) can't agree on what kind of Brexit they want to do. The big issue is Northern Ireland, under the May deal if future Governments can't work out a deal regarding Northern Ireland's border with the Republic of Ireland, then the May deal automatically leaves Northern Ireland as part of the EU Trade Union forever (unless the UK and EU agree on something but the EU has no reason to negotiate at that point, they won), this is called the Backstop. This probably violates the Good Friday Agreement since there would be a defacto border between the rest of the UK and Northern Ireland, so the IRA might be back (unless the entire UK stays in the Trade Union but not the EU with any say over the rules, which is stupid). The Republic of Ireland also really don't want a hard border between them and the Northern Ireland if there is no border deal down the road, that's why they demanded the Backstop as an automatic fail safe. 

 

May isn't going anywhere, they hate her deal but won't risk Corbyn becoming PM in a General Election. The Conservative Party tried to remove her internally but failed and under party rules she's safe for a year. Only way it'll happen is if the Northern Irish (DUP) break with the coalition and vote with Corbyn tomorrow, which they won't do. Plus no one wants her job within the Conservative Party. 

 

May or whoever will have to go back to the EU and try for a deal that a majority of Parliament and the EU will agree on. The issue is nobody knows what Parliament wants. 

 

If no deal is reached by March 29th, the UK will leave the EU without a deal, which the Hard Brexit MPs now want but a majority of Parliament really don't want. The problem is there might not be enough time to put the pin back in the No Deal grenade (deadline extension or 2nd Referendum) since leaving on March 29th is a law passed 2 years ago and can't be repealed overnight.

I remember Larry Miller had this standup joke about how getting back together with your ex is like taking milk out of the fridge, taking a drink, cringing because it's gone bad, and you stick it back in the fridge and say, "Maybe it'll be good tomorrow."

 

That appears to be the strategy that the U.K. is basing their future on.

They have no politically viable options because the UK populace are straight up as stupid as we are on this side of the pond. The fact there isn't a majority of the UK, even now, for just holding another referendum that clearly wins to stay in the EU given how clearly impossible it is to leave it says all there needs to be said.

 

The UK's very own population is trying to intentionally destroy itself. They can just stay in the EU, problem solved, but nah, they aren't into a solution as easy and simple as that.
