Yowza! Oh, I loved twitter on sunday night. It was grade A comedy. I very much look forward to next week.
CastlevaniaNut18
Despite watching the episode twice, I complete missed that Varys was trying to poison Dany in the beginning of the episode.

Indeed he was. He was in full-on rebellion mode. He deserved his fiery death. If he had successfully poisoned her at that point, the Dothraki and Unsullied would be in disarray and they'd be left with a dragon they couldn't control which was their entire trump card. Drogon would go from their own flying WMD to a ridiculously huge liability as he goes back to munching on commoners and torching small villages. He's just as dumb as Jon, only a thousand times more arrogant and completely lacking in any self-awareness.

It's not a reason to dislike him. All the best characters in GoT are a bit full of themselves. It's how dumb he's been since leaving King's Landing that's thrown me off his wagon. He lost his network of spies and found himself the suburbs without hundreds of little beggar kids to do his dirty work. The writers obviously had no idea what to do with him without that network to lean on. That said, they could have done a better job. That, however, is true if a lot of the later seasons. I say that knowing that GoT is still better TV than the vast majority of the crap on broadcast, streaming, and premium.

Chairslinger
It was when Varys was talking to the little girl. It was pretty subtle and easy to miss. Especially since the series has increasingly made Varys a cuddly quip machine and downplayed his dark side. It kind of worked out perfectly for me because I am rereading the first book and just got to the part where Varys is, at the very least, complicit in Ned's upcoming death. And even in the recent scene they somewhat soft peddled Varys since in the books, I beleive he removes his "little birds" tongue so they can't talk(as well as being pretty nonchalant about the high death rate of his little child laborers ). I think his turn kind of felt a bit weird on the show(as so many things have felt "rushed") but it falls in line perfectly with the character. He has always been clear he would do anything to give the realm a good ruler. Once he decided that wasn't Dany anymore, he tried to eliminate her. 6 minutes ago, 2user1cup said: I feel it wasn't stressed enough how telling about Dany's character it should have been that Varys had turned against her. Other than small characters like Illyrio and Vyserys, Varys has been the one supporting Dany the longest. Even when he was in the shadows and unknown in the very beggining of the series when Robert was trying to have her assassinated Varys was plotting to bring about her rule. Mercury33
Mind. Blown. I assumed it was cause she was depressed about the Dragon. I def did not put 2 and 2 together.
TheLeon
I caught that Varys was trying to poison her, I was more confused that he suddenly had his little birds back. I guess she must have been a new, one-off recruit.

That would be interesting, but no. I don't think we saw her again after her one scene with Davos and Gilly. She would be recognizable because of her facial scarring (that reminded them both of Shireen).

Greatoneshere
It's very surprising, but apparently the entire cast has been quite clear they have not liked seasons 7 and 8. http://collider.com/game-of-thrones-season-8-cast-reactions/ So my disappointment with seasons 7 and 8 makes even more sense now. I mean, they aren't even hiding it.
Ghost_MH
Was anyone actually expecting a truly happy ending out of Game of Thrones?

No one was actually expecting a "happy" ending. The actual expectation is an ending that feels "earned" by the events leading to that ending, and that is where the sense of disappointment lies because of the final two truncated seasons.
