In Villeneuve I Trust but this trailer really doesn't do anything for me either way really. I hope it's...weirder and artsier than the trailer makes it look? Sounds stupid written out but that's what I thought.

My completely baseless guess: it will be plenty artsy/weird, but this is an extremely expensive movie, and they need to try to sell it to a wider audience.

I got the same exact feeling honestly and I don’t really know how to articulate it completely, but it just felt very by the numbers.

It's going to be a classic Villeneuve movie, but that's the most Hollywood trailer I've ever seen (including giving away stuff later in the movie). I understand why they do it...but it wasn't a great trailer.

My assumption is that they have to at least attempt to market this from an Epic Sci-Fi Adventure perspective. I really don't like Jason Momoa's nor Josh Brolin's presence in the trailer especially. Maybe the way it's edited but they both gave me serious PG-13 Bro Edge vibes. Also thought the music was ultra Hollywood and lame.

It's Villeneuve, I love the guy, so I'll watch it no matter what and I can't imagine him dishing up cheesiness at this point. I'll fully blame the trailer for now.

I dunno that looked pretty awesome to me. Combined with the first trailer I’d say the vibe feels right. And most importantly, piecing things together so far, the story feels like it’s going to be right.

Same. The trailer clearly tries to make Dune palatable for casual audiences, which is the smart move since the film itself (given the teaser trailer) will be weirder, which you can definitely see in flashes even in this trailer. It looks really good - the dialogue had pretty cool/strong one-liners I liked, etc.

We have the first reviews from the Venice Film Festival:

Denis Villeneuve's adaptation has a majestic vastness, but it's an act of world-building that runs out of storytelling steam.

It's well-told, but still half a story.

There's plenty of awesome sci-fi to love in Denis Villeneuve's epic adaptation of 'Dune,' though the storytelling leaves much to be desired.

Dune is a gorgeous but imperfect epic, a technical wonder that spends too much time setting up a third act that never comes.

Without actually reading any of the reviews and only looking at headlines. Still super psyched. Sounds like he doesn’t contain the story as well as he should but once both movies can be viewed together itll be a full on epic.

For people like my wife who haven’t read the book gonna be a frustrating experience though.

And there's the main sticking point: the production of Part 2 is entirely dependent on the commercial performance of Part 1.

Oh it is?? I was under the impression he only agreed to do it if he was allowed to do it in two parts and that was a done deal. Not that part 1 had to do well for part 2 to be greenlit
