Its a tweet from 2011 when dems and not crazy wing of the GOP was working on immigration reform along with border security package.

His followers think "dealing with illegal immigration" means "build a wall."

No, I mean, why would Trump ever publicly display that he agrees with Obama? He hates the man. I mean, I'm sure since Obama is actually smart and an "elite" in Trump's eyes, maybe it is a desire to gain his approval since he's all about projection, I don't know, but this is crazy to me.

Because regardless, he's one of those mouth-breathers who goes, "Obama did it so it's bad," when it suits him and, "Pretend Obama agreed with me so we can go after Dems for not signing off to what I want," when it suits him.

Oh well thats simple, hes attempting to make it seem like dems are so radical now that even socialist lefty Obama wanted increased border security.  :silly:

You're both right, I'm sure it's all of that, but he really hates the man. To just retweet him and add: "I totally agree!" in a positive way in this political climate he created - I dunno, the cognitive dissonance is so bad it broke.

He really hates him but he didn't punch him in the face while sitting beside him at Bush's funeral. He has his limits, my man. :p

No I agree haha, but how does his base reconcile their DEAR LEADER so wholeheartedly agreeing with their/his mortal enemy (in their eyes)?

Because I have learned, having monitored them on Facebook as if I were Jane Goodall, that they're not thinking this through much. None of it makes sense. If Trump wants something Obama presumably wants, then it's a good idea instead of saying something like, "Wait, if Obama liked it, then I can't support it!" They were free trade until Trump. They liked the NFL until Trump tweeted. They liked Bush and the Iraq War until Trump.

This isn't even going into the fact that Obama wasn't asking for a wall.

Hence my confusion!

Either Trump knows his base won't notice/care and is hoping to agree with Obama for the reasons you and PaladinSolo explained OR Trump is just as dumb as his base and doesn't see the cognitive dissonance of his own tweets.

WHICH IS IT

Hasn't stopped Trump before.

I mean just last week Trump said within a few minutes that we need a wall because the border isn't secure, and that the border is secure.

Agreed, but he doesn't have a personal investment in that answer. To praise Obama, even ironically for his own political point, I thought was beyond him. I stand corrected.

Honestly he does it every time he wants to make a point about an extreme view. He loves to try and make false equivalences about Obama and other democrats.

Another example is when Trump made it policy to split families he mentioned Obama did as well as a way to rationalize his stupidity. Trump of course willfully neglected to notice the actual differences in policy.

On the seventh day of the partial government shutdown, President Trump on Friday threatened to shut down the U.S.-Mexico border if Democrats refuse his monetary demands to build his long-promised wall. Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said he expected the shutdown to go on for a while, but revealed the president has come down from his initial demand of $5 billion to build the wall.

"We sat down with (Chuck) Schumer and gave him a number below five. I am not going to tell you what it is," Mulvaney said.
