Give him funding for the wall but make him raise taxes to pay for it. So funding can only come from the new revenue made from the tax hike. If he wants to get any where he’ll need to hit up the 1%.

:)

They’ll just blame the democrats for the tax hike

At least it's fucking something. The loser Democrats better stick to their guns for once. Not a goddamn penny.

Also, even if Trump doesn't sign the bill, can't they force the bill by a 2/3's vote pass in the Senate afterwards? Who cares if Trump doesn't sign it?

They can override a veto, but turtle won't bring the bill to a vote without Trump's support

He did say that, but I don't understand why? Who cares on either side whether Trump supports it?

He's unwilling to be seen working with the Democrats. That's really all it is. The Senate passed this bill 100-0 right before the shutdown, but he knew it wouldn’t come up for a vote in the House. Now that it can actually pass in the House he's against it. Which is classic McConnell fuckery, remember that time he filibustered his own bill because he was only proposing it to try to make the Democrats look bad by opposing it, and then they caught him off guard by actually supporting it?

But he let the Russia sanctions bill pass and Trump didn't want to sign that either?

It wasn't his stupid wall as the hinge point

True enough, but again, McTurtle could override. I just don't see what difference it makes if Trump is very unwilling but might begrudgingly sign (Russia sanctions) over being even more unwilling and even less likely to sign (in this case)? Like, what difference does that make to McTurtle?

So this is playing into the "small government guys" hands right? Those Freedom Caucus guys have no interest in having a working, productive federal government.

That tends to be the problem. The GOP takes a hostage and they immediately have the advantage because they don't care if they kill the hostage.

The opportunity here is that Trump, through his incompetence, has dealt the Dems an unusually strong opening hand despite that inherently uneven playing field.

With the "I will take the mantle" soundbyte in one hand, and Trump's demand being something fairly unpopular in the other the Dems need to stand strong and unwavering here imho.

It has the potential to hurt Trump politically, but more importantly if they can't win with this hand, then they might as well not even put up a fight when it comes to the budget. If they can't "win" this one, then the GOP will just continue to play hardball and get whatever they want.

Shoes on the other foot now.

Is he the youngish GOP Congressman who kept going on TV news during the midterms to frowny-face about Trump needing to stop saying the quiet parts out loud?
