Yes. Their views and BS present a danger to society and should be removed.

Mostly agreed.  Do you think anyone who wants to listen to them should be denied the right to.

The left are the most tolerant of people. Until you disagree with them.

Completely agree with @TwinIon. A right to speak does not mean you have a right to be heard or a right to a megaphone. You're on a private platform and your beliefs are dangerous and break every ToS there is; why would you get special treatment over an individual who also harasses or bullies?

The scary thing I've seen is the way many people on the extremist right try to sanitize these far-right views. In Red Dead, for example, you can kill someone who whipped slaves and doesn't regret it. He'll fall on a fire and burn to death if you do. I saw a comment from someone saying that they did it and loved doing it. Some guy responded, "Of COURSE the left would do that. You're going to kill anyone who has an untenable political belief." Yes, whipping slaves is now an "untenable political belief." What a euphemism.

My favorite is when this young woman was talking on a friend's FB status about the fear she had of Facebook "silencing" views when Alex Jones was banned. I said, "He harasses grieving parents whose children were shot dead. Why does he deserve a platform?" and she goes, "You mean the crisis actors?" I said, "Oh, you're one of those." They always give themselves away; she wants Alex Jones there because she probably gets aroused by him and his views.

Can someone give me an ELI5 on who these people are and what their beliefs are? Except Milo. I know who he is.

Sam Harris:

Atheists = awesome!

Judaism/Christianity = bad!

Islam = really bad! probably because they're mostly scary brown people to a Jewish upper-middle class guy like me

Sargon of Akaad

Brexit = good because the scary brown Muslim people will be kept out of England

Can you explain to me what the problem is with not giving someone who claims beating slaves is okay and calls grieving parents "crisis actors" and encourages his followers to harass those grieving parents a platform?

That's not a liberal or conservative issue, that's just being a decent fucking human being. Free speech comes with some responsibilities and some garbage people spew is so vile it should never being given anything resembling credibility.

I mean, what the fuck is wrong with you to turn that into a partisan issue?

Also, am I missing something @SaysWho? RDR takes place decades after the Civil War, why would there be slaves?

So neither are particularly racist?  Or just racist against muslims?

In RDR2, there's a side mission where a man wants you to get some old stuff from his house. But:

Quote

Compson is first encountered on a bench outside of Rhodes' Train Station where he informs the player on how his once great life fell apart and how he lost everything. The player offers to break into his old home and retrieve three of his possessions; his old revolver, a ledger, and a valuable pocket watch.

During the search, the player discovers that Compson was once a slave hunter by the notes in his ledger, often writing how proud he was of the work he did in the position. Arthur is disgusted by his findings and confronts him at his camp. Compson rants about how his life fell apart, how the public no longer respects him and how he lost the job he loved so much. Arthur then throws his possessions into his campfire, causing him to cry and, in an attempt to kill Arthur, fires the revolver. However, the gun jams and Compson curses the player for destroying his possessions.

If you shoot him while he's on the ground, he falls into the fire and burns. I saw this comment on one of the sites describing the mission after someone said they were happy to kill him:

Quote

You’re a fucking hypocrite. So this is a game where killing is moral wrong in every case except when killing white people who hold untenable political beliefs. Got it.

Someone else replied and called him out of course, but yeah, being a slave hunter is an "untenable political belief." I'm sure the guy isn't actually some far-right racist.

Sargon of Akaad would unquestionably be a member of the alt-right, if he doesn't identify with it already.

Harris might not be an actual racist per se but he dances dangerously close to the line on several occasions with his intellectual sympathies.

Free speech is free speech. It’s up to each American to sort out the bullshit. There’s lots of things that piss me off but I don’t think it should be banned or censored. I just turn the dial, change the channel, close the book, or click down the web page.

And the government isn't silencing these people. That's all free speech is.

Companies can decided who they allow a platform to and private citizens can certainly call out hateful people for spewing horrible things.

So I still don't see what the issue is. Free speech, it has consequences, yo.

Again like I said if I run onto something on Facebook, television, in a book, web page, etc. that I don’t agree with. That I think is hateful or horrible I simply choose for myself to not read or watch it. That’s why it’s called free speech and freedom of choice.

You keep missing the part where free speech just means the government can't silence you.

Companies can give you the boot whenever they want.

I guess where we differ is I don’t need or want companies to be my parents and to show me right from wrong or good from bad. I like to decide for myself.

The censoring, or de-platforming, is being carried out by private companies though, not the state. I don't think this applies.

We don't differ there, I'm just stating a fact. It's like being fired from work for behavior deemed inappropriate by your company that you agreed to in their handbook or something along the lines.

It's irrelevant if I, or you, think that's unjust or not, it's the private business' terms these people agreed to, that's all there's to it. They just have to go somewhere else.
