I think I finally understood most of the family's dialogue, and therefore finer plot points, which escaped me originally due to their heavy accents. The ending segment always sent shivers down my spine and is one of the great Horror endings in my book. I absolutely love how much it mirrors a Goya painting and similar artists throughout. We can basically switch those two out for each other because I thought Hereditary was terrible. I like The Witch as a period piece, I shouldn't really call it a Horror movie by modern standards per say, it isn't really. It kinda is, it slowly builds and then throws the viewer off a cliff, twice. The viewer wants to know how the "monsters" all fit in to this story and then the not so great reveal. But then it leads the viewer down this path again only to shit on them even more with an even worse twist. All of this combined with Shyamalan over reliance on the twist make for a bad film.
