How does Tetris determine which blocks are next?

In the settings, there is a question “Do you stand or sit to wipe?”  If you answer stand, you get a ton of lines. You say sit, you get z and square blocks. Pajitnov is a known stander and hates sitters. 

That makes Tetris an even more impressive achievement seeing how he's clearly mentally challenged in that case.

This is most definitely NES Tetris. They will give you super long droughts of no long pieces.
