I was coming to make a thread about this game and glad to see one already here. It's as if fallout and bioshock had freaky sex and out came Atomic Heart.

That atmosphere is doing it for me, I think this could be an insta buy for me when it drops as I Absolutely love what I see

It's The Dude!! Great to see you back!  I am likewise a late-comer to the shiny new D1P.

the world looks great, the gameplay looks like vanilla nothing though

Ya know.. nowadays I don't think I would mind a "dumb" shooter. I kinda miss straight-up first person shooters. Everything nowadays has to have skill trees and dialogue choices and open worlds. Sometimes I just wanna strafe and bait stupid enemies into a choke point so I can mow 'em down.

EDIT: Ugh, never mind, it says it's an Action RPG.

Great looking world... what was that demo running on? Looked like PS4 controller prompts

It looks like there's some Sony endorsement going on, since they have box art for PS4 and PC and then a small Xbox One logo at the bottom.

Went to google some gameplay footage just now out of boredom and instead happened upon this ERA post. Basically, all that footage was a load of shit and there isn't really even a...game at this point it appears.

@SFLUFAN Not sure if I can just copy/paste from there, slap me down if not:

"Interesting article came out from a gamedev related Telegram channel. Poster says he anonymously talked with some of the Atomic Heart devs to find out what's been happening with all these rumors (rumors that almost got no attention outside local websites).

Key notes (but there are a lot more going on):

  • Last gameplay is real but it's heavily directed and very linear. First trailer is mostly fake with gameplay bits rendered on engine.
  • Seems like the game may have an episodic release (1 episode is approximately 5 hours) but it doesn't mentioned anywhere else.
  • CEO doesn't have any knowledge about the game development.
  • Everything that people like about the game (art, design, concept) is made by one person - Artyom Galeev, who has been nurturing the concept of the game for many years.
  • No actual game design. Devs don't know what they want to make. Someone liked finishers from DOOM and they implented something similar. Ideas shift from Doom-Prey to even Dark Souls.
  • Major layoffs and there are not many experienced developers with C++ and UE4 in Russia, a lot of the work is outsourced.
  • Development was rebooted 5 months ago and now it looks even worse than it did before, huge gameplay downgrade.
  • The whole deal with Soviet Luna Park VR sounds like a cashgrab with peopple who bought it left behind.
  • Pre-orders are already open and it seems like it's the only thing about this game that really does work."

Original article is in Russian. Posted by ResetERA user Djost1kk.

This looked fucking awesome but appears to be an unmitigated :dumpster_fire:

@Bloodporne - can you find the original post on ResetERA and link to it here, please?

Edit - nevermind, I found it!

Rumor: Not everything is great with Atomic Heart development.

For future reference, how do I link a post? Just copy the URL of the specific post in a Link I guess?

And what a total bummer, this looked fantastic. Looks like the art guy is seriously solely responsible for everything everyone found appealing about this. In my head, this was already Soviet Dystopian Sci-Fi Prey.

Yup, and they still haven't let us join the beta we were promised back in Q4 of 2019.

I was looking around on their website and none of the pre-orders even include a beta anymore. The closest thing is early access - you get to play the game 7 days early.

Then I found this. https://mundfish.com/en/2019/10/05/important-news/

Quote

After long discussions we’ve understood we need more time than expected so we’ve made a difficult choice to cancel a beta test and multiplayer part of the game.

The sole purpose of beta was to test a multiplayer game mode because of demanding serverside and balance issues. We’ve planned to release it as a Holiday gift for our players, keep it live for a week and collect feedback afterwards. But in the process it became clear the focus on story is much more important than multiplayer. We believe the launch of beta prior to release would be a premature step and test itself might unintentionally spoil game’s world and narrative. We don’t want it to happen this way.

We will close pre-orders with a discounted price in 4 days (October 9). Lowered price was a bonus for those who’ve decided to support us on early stages of development. Please keep in mind all editions’ bonuses will be delivered as promised. We are also ready to accept a refund for everyone who is not happy with beta cancellation – just contact us.

I'm interested... the music alone is pretty great.

Renowned Doom composer Mick Gordon will be lending his talents to Atomic Heart, which you can hear a bit of in the new Plyush mini-boss gameplay video at the top of this page. "He is taking part in music production along with our in-house sound team," Mundfish said. "You will have an opportunity to experience both recognizable Mick Gordon's sound and the initial vision of our team we have started with."

I think the first person melee looks just as it does in basically any other FPS ever, awkward and not terribly fun. That being said, at least superficially this really reminds me of commie Prey and I really like that soundtrack so I'm 100% in unless it reviews like dog shit.

That's true... First Person Melee doesn't work unless you do some extra animation and collision detection work. Very few games have been able to do a good job with it.

It's one of those weird things that always strikes me as that 'BUT WHY??' gif. First person melee has been the same shit forever at this point, there's seemingly never any drive to improve it and it's pretty much always awkward and without any nuance beyond backing up quickly after hitting attack. Your character can't ever perform any cool evasive shit like a Souls roll or even properly jump or dash so it always feels extremely bare bones.

Even Dishonored's first person melee didn't feel good enough for me to ever want to engage in sword fights despite it having evasive options and other, in theory, cool shit.

I love Prey and even in a game I love I think the melee is barely serviceable, let alone fun to play. I do assume though that this one, much like Prey, has a variety of combat options.

Dying Light has pretty good first person melee so it CAN be done but you're right, it's pretty bad in most games.
