No Toshinden 3, no Ten Count, this is bullshit!

These are both my observations and some things pointed out on Reset that make a lot of sense:

1) I'm really glad they put some smaller games here. Intelligent Qube is an overlooked but fantastic first party game on the PS1 and its inclusion is awesome.

2) I get Crash and Spyro not being there because they're recently remade, and N-Sane trilogy has sold great. They make sense for the Clasic, but considering the remakes, I'd honestly rather them not use up slots and am glad they don't.

3) I now understand games like Gran Turismo/THPS not being on there due to car licensing and music licensing.

4) I think, though, that some sequels would have been better than what was put here. Twisted Metal 2 would have been a better inclusion than the first, even though I've played significantly more of the second and probably could stand to play more of the first. Same with GTA1 instead of GTA2, though I'd love to revisit either one. Toshinden is another example.

One thing I wonder is, can you do a 20-game PS1 list that's comprehensive for everyone? For the N64, I feel as if you could because it had significantly fewer games, but as long as you had Mario 64/SSB/Star Fox 64/Donkey Kong 64/Goldeneye (if it can be licensed for it)/Superman 64 just to fuck with people, you have a list with which everyone is satisfied. I dunno if I could make a 20-game list for the PS1 that would be universally approved.

When I think of what could go on a Playstation Classic, I think these could be there:

Ace Combat

Ace Combat 2

Alundra

Ape Escape

Arc the Lad

Arc the Lad 2

Armored Core

Armored Core 2

Battle Arena Toshinden
Battle Arena Toshinden 2

Battle Arena Toshinden 3

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Chrono Cross

Cool Boarders

Cool Boarders 2

Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back

Crash Bandicoot Warped

Crash Team Racing

Destruction Derby

Dino Crisis

Dino Crisis 2

Driver

Einhander

Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy IX

Final Fantasy Tactics

G-Darius
Gradius Gaiden

Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto 2

Gran Turismo

Gran Turismo 2

Intelligent Qube

Jet Moto

Jet Moto 2

Jet Moto 3

Jumping Flash!

Klonoa

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

Legend of Dragoon

Legend of Legaia

Lunar

Metal Gear Solid

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

PaRappa the Rapper

Persona 2: Innocent Sin (though this was only released in Japan)

R4: Ridge Racer Type 4

Parasite Eve

Parasite Eve 2

Rayman

Resident Evil

Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Revelations: Persona

Silent Hill

Spyro the Dragon

Spyro 2

Spyro 3

Star Ocean: The Second Story

Street Fighter Alpha 3

Suikoden

Suikoden 2

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

Syphon Filter

Syphon Filter 2

Syphon Filter 3

Tekken 2

Tekken 3

Tomba!

Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider 2

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

Twisted Metal

Twisted Metal 2

Vagrant Story

Valkyrie Profile

Wild Arms

Wild Arms 2

Wipeout 2097

Worms Armageddon

Xenogears

Now take out Gran Turismo/THPS if licensing is really that much of a headache (and that's highly probable). I think even at 30 games, it would be hard to make a list that doesn't have at least a few glaring omissions.

Twisted Metal 1 instead of 2 seems like the worst choice here.  The first game is pretty bad.

Including DK64 is how you make people unhappy.  Most of that game is a straight up chore.

For the N64, I just think it has to be there just because you could probably fit 20 there without much trouble:

1. Super Mario 64

2. Pilotwings 64

3. Star Fox 64

4. Super Smash Bros

5. Pokemon Stadium

6. Pokemon Snap

7. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

8. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

9. Diddy Kong Racing

10. Banjo Kazooie

11. Paper Mario

12. Kirby 64

13. Banjo-Tooie

14. Jet Force Gemini

15. Donkey Kong 64

16. Mario Kart 64

17. Mario Party

18. Ogre Battle 64

19. Harvest Moon 64

20. F-Zero X

A few of those you could trade out for others (since Pokemon Stadium used your GameBoy Pokemon team, you might eliminate that and do something like 1080 Snowboarding or Wave Race), and stuff like Goldeneye/Perfect Dark may not make it due to licensing or not owning the IP anymore. Wrestling games wouldn't make it in.

Otherwise, it's easier to do 20 N64 games than 20 PS1 games.

I much prefer my list (below).  No DK64 or Pokemon Stadium wasting space.  No controller destroying Mario Party.  More and better 3rd party games.  Less wasted on Rare games unlikely to happen, or that have received higher-res ports.

Spoiler

1. Zelda OoT
2. Zelda MM

3. Mario 64
4. Starfox 64
5. Paper Mario

6. Super Smash Bros 64
7. Ogre Battle 64
8. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon

9. Mario Tennis 64

10. Mischief Makers
11. Mario Party 2 (or 3)
12. Bomberman 64
13. Sin & Punishment

14. Wave Race 64
15. Bomberman 64: The Second Attack

16. Mario Kart 64

17. F-Zero X

18. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
19. Rayman 2: The Great Escape

20. Diddy Kong Racing

Yours sucks because I said so. :|

Nah, it's good, but again, it's not drastically different. N64 just has a smaller library overall. Do a 30-game PS1 Classic and a 30-game N64 classic and you'll be able to non-controversially do the latter.

Pretty good list.  I don't think Goldeneye will make it.  There have been lots of problems licensing that game.  For that fact MS will need to be involved for several of those Rare games to make it in.  MS has been trying to act like a good guy lately so maybe they strike up a licensing deal.  You have to include Wave Race.  That was an awesome release game back in the day.
