So it is cheddar.

No, it's like a bastardization of it. Wikipedia sezzzz:

Very early in its history, American cheese was only white in color—as it was made from a blend of cheeses (most often including cheddar cheese) which were originally only white. However, the later versions are often a yellow hue due to the addition of annatto, a sweet and nutty seasoning added to cheddar and to Colby so that by the late 1800s American cheese was often simply called "yellow cheese".

Oh yeah, I put it on Tuna sandwiches too... Hot Pastrami and American Cheese is good too.

Wait, do people think that the only American Cheese is Kraft singles  I don't think it even calls itself cheese on the package... more like "cheese food" or something like that. I don't eat that crap.

Same. I'm all about that deli sliced Land O' Lakes New Yorker American Cheese.

Let me fix that for you: Salami, Light Mayo, Hummus, Lettuce, Tomato, Sharp Cheddar, Avocado, Jalapeño on Whole Wheat

Fuck an avocado, what is this, California!?

The rest sounds delicious though...

PS: Anything with salami is basically a sell for me. If you have a European deli around you (no idea where you live...) per chance, get your hands on some Hungarian salami, my god.

Avocado on everything please.

I am also addicted to Salami. There's a place in go to which has microbrews, artisenal cheeses, and delicious meats. Sometimes the hipsters know what's up.

Alas, I'm having some over-easy eggs with a melty slice of American cheese on top right now.

Some rye toast on the side with some orange marmalade...yes.

I pan toasted an everything bagel and added two scrambled eggs with green onions, AVOCADO, tomato, hot sauce, and some grilled halloumi.

If you strip that lame-ass avocado out, which by the way has the consistency of a rotten corpse, this sounds great and I'm ripping off your idea tomorrow morning.

That is so hipster it actually made me laugh out loud slightly. But sadly you're correct, I sometimes have to admit defeat and eat at some ultra-hipster shitshow of a restaurant that gentrified my old neighborhood because well...it's delicious and that's where my hatred ends.

They even have a pickled section.. so good. They do play metal music though.... So it's very confusing.

Maybe I'm... A hipster. Et tu, Dillinger Escape Plan?

I guess they're kinda hipster...?

I'm a huge Metal fan and even I recognize that any business playing Metal in any shape is hipster as fuck unless it's a Rock bar haha...

I totally tuned out that whole 90's Relapse Records scene including Dillinger, isn't for me. No idea if it's a hipster staple though actually. Maybe this is a moment of self-realization.

Do you live in New York? Hipsters + Metal in a food store sounds suspiciously New York.

I love NY but no, I don't live there right now. I really like the mathcore-hardcore sound atm. Like.. I can't get enough of The Armed and Car Bomb.

Ah yeah, that style is like kryptonite to me. My favorite Metal bands are stuff like Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate, Bathory and anything obscure going from there.

People turning up their nose to American cheese are no better than the people who get their dick in knots over pineapple on pizza.  Get over yourselves people, arguing over the "right" food is meaningless.  Oh, you like cheddar?  American cheese is typically made with cheddar and colby, they just put some emulsifying salts and such in it so it stays shelf stable and melty.

If you don't like the taste, you don't like the taste, but let's not get all high and mighty over the fermented cow tit juice we're putting into our body.

American cheese is fantastic on burgers, the proper cheese for egg sandwiches, the only right way to make mac and cheese to get it melty and not clumpy, the right gooey topping for a cheesesteak, and the the best possible option for a nice and stretchy grilled cheese sandwich.
